stubborn water stain on hood
washed my car the other evening and I noticed a water stain that would not go away. I can feel the roughness when I rub my finger over it. I tried using clay and some lube, but all that did was make it a little less visable and took some of my finish . *I probably pushed too hard*
What is the best way to remove this stupid stain! I read that vineger will get rid of it, but I am hesitant to do that since I have recently had the car polished and sealed.
I have some meguires rubbing compound, would a small amount of that work? I do not have a porter cable though. I just want my finish back in that little spot!
Let me know what you guys think.

A photo would be helpful.
Try a 1 part water to 3 parts distilled white vinegar wash over the area for several minutes.
Follow with either a carnauba cleaner wax or a scratch remover, using a little finesse.
Then wax over it.
You may not get it all out, and don't try to, as you may wear away the factory orange peel and/or the clear coat.

Don't use any rubbing compounds on your hood until you try it somewhere else that you won't see it!!
Before using true rubbing compounds and power tools you could consider trying some of Meguiar's less-abrasive stuff, like Ultimate Compound, followed by Scratch-X if you scuff it up at all. If you do the clay bar, remember to let the clay bar do the work - don't apply any pressure, just glide it.

Have a detailer spot treat it. The reason it took some of your finish off is because clay is abrasive, and you most likely marred the paint with a lot of tiny scratches, dulling the finish. Never apply pressure to the clay, it should glide.
Also, don't worry about the polish&seal on that spot, it's already gone and will need to be done again. Any abrasive material(clay, polish) will remove the sealant/wax.
