Tore a chunk off pad, still good to use?

I stupidly buffed a sharp corner on a taillight and got the pad torn, theres like 2 chunks missing.

Is it still safe to use this pad or will it cause scratches?

I'd post a picture but the forums dont seem to have that function working right now...

Thanks!

Unfortunately a torn pad can potentially create imperfections when your using it. I'd recommend picking up a pad to replace it.

Yep, I would still save the pad though. I've done jobs like a repair on a rim that I knew would destroy the pad, I wish I would have had a nice worn pad instead of tearing up a newer one.

Thanks for the replies and good point on saving it for oddball jobs.

Yep, wheels, exhaust tips, the nasty painted under parts of the car, under the hood... there are some solid uses for damaged pads, just better off getting new ones for the main part of your paint though.

Realistically you will be fine. I've taken chunks out here and there and have NEVER had an issue. I'm assuming the chunks you speak of are more towards the sides of the pad? If so it's really no big deal. If they were huge gouges out of the center then sure, replace them.
