Help=Black G w/ Paint Chips

I have an 03.5 Black G35 Sedan. I didn't get the clear bra and now I am regretting it. I have lots of small paint chips in my hood and front fender. What is the best way to deal with this?

Thanks

g4ian

You really only have 2 main choices. Live with it an eat a lower trade in when you get rid of it, or spend big bucks and get it the whole front end repainted and still take a hit when you trade it. In other words the horse is out of the barn, live with the loss

Not much you can do. I use factory touchup and Lanka and it works "good". If I took my time, I'm sure it could look unnoticable. You'll never get it looking like it was, but this is the inexpensive route until you replace your front bumper for some unlikely reason.

Here is what I did.
Had the chips airbrushed professionaly and then slap a clear bra over it when your done.

Next, get so PI$$ED that you have to spend all this money on a new car and sell it. You will be very relieved. Then when you buy another car don't buy black.

Re: Vids -

OR, you can do what I (and countless others) have done - get a clear bra installed within 3 days of ownership, save your anger and your $$, and enjoy the crap out of your beautiful black machine. You will not be relieved (of money or emotions), because you never got upset in the first place.

But hey, that's just me LOL

Luckily I was reading this forum before I actually got my car, so one of the first mods I did was get a clear bra. Double-din was second :P

Re: Help=Black G w/ Paint Chips

Many people decide to repaint the bumper and then put a clearbra over the new paint......there is a 30-60 day waiting period for the paint to cure before film is applied. Otherwise, if the film is ever removed for any reason, the paint will come off w/ the film.

The spots can also be touched up if you don't have that many chips.

Re: Help=Black G w/ Paint Chips

Sorry g4ian - wasn't meant for you. I was funnin' with Vids, and his answer.

Wil's right, if you don't have too many chips, you can touch them up and they are not noticeable under a properly installed "clear bra" - mine had 1 chip I had to touch up, even after only 3 days !! If you live in the SF Bay Area, I recommend you PM Wil, if not, check with a good detail shop - they can do the touchup, if it's feasible, and then either install the clearbra, or refer you to someone, probably.

Otherwise, it's the repaint scenario described by the others. Sorry

Re: Help=Black G w/ Paint Chips

dbarnes,

I know, I was just stating the obvious. I was thinking about getting a clean used bumper off someone w/ a body upgrade, then having the hood touched up, then putting that damn clear bra on that I should have gotten in the first place....

Either that, or try black shoe polish

Re: Help=Black G w/ Paint Chips

Here's what works for me:
- Clean - chip
- Paint - layer touchup paint using #2 artist brush (allow to dry between layers)
- Cure/Level - once layered above surface and cured (don't use high pressure wash while curing), very gently use 2000+ wetdry sandpaper (or langka ... yet to try) to level
- Polish/Wax - use 3M compound to remove sandpaper scratches, followed by Klasse AIO polish, then caranuba wax (suggest Pinnacle Souveran for black/red)
