Detailing & 3M
I just got my car back from getting detailed today. Overall pretty happy. Some things I'm definitely not but too late now. Anyways, the factory 3M on the rocker panels I noticed was cut on the passenger side. Now, I just got this car not that long ago and I have a very good eye for picking out flaws. When I took the car in, I'm almost positive that the 3M was not cut or anything like that before. And after we took the car out to get inspected after detailing, I noticed it right away thinking it was dirt.
Is it possible for the powered polishers/buffers to be able to take off the 3M like that? Or was I totally oblivious up until now and didn't notice it before. I'd hate to pass the blame but I really cannot recall it being there as I hand dry the car all the time, and the dealership never noted it in their pre-purchase inspection either...

It's impossible for it to get cut. Plus most detailers leave that area alone. They don't go over it with a buffer or wax it because it will leave wax residue on the edges of the clear vinyl.
They usually detail around the 3m tape.

It might be possible that they caused that. Its hard to tell. It looks like theres a lot of left over polish residue around the bra in that third picture. So I'd say they probably just buffed over the clear bra.
I must be more of a detail freak than the guy that detailed your ride, I never leave that krud behind. That's one of the last things you do when waxing your car before final wipe down. Some of our members take that clear stuff off their G35, a heat gun would probably get 'er done....

Your average detailer isn't going to be going that low with a buffer. I would say if it definitely wasn't there before you dropped it off, then you should ask them about it. I'm guessing it probably got knocked when they were moving stuff around.

I'll have to ask them about it. I'm finding a few places were wax is around the edges, plus a **** load of dust in and around gaps that wasn't wiped off. However, I'm at the point where I'm going to get it taken to another shop in town to get it replaced, along with some 3M added to the metal around the wheel wells and rocker panels. Since I'll be driving this baby in the winter, I want to alleviate any rust issues now before the typical Japanese metal quality meets its inevitable demise
Having a black vehicle I really don't want to get it done to the hood and front bumper. Seeing those lines would drive me bananas.
