I was offered this protection package by the dealer for $850. I was wondering who in the forum got this package. Pros and cons? Is it worth it or not?

Re: Ming Ultimate Car Protection
Is it worth it? I have the paint protection on my truck now for two years and it STILL looks fantastic! I love the fact I don't have to wax it twice a year and this is the first year I'm taking it in for a touch up to remove some minor surface scratches. We shall see how it turns out before I do the G35.

It sounds like the dealer is quoting you a price that includes undercoating, interior protection and paint application. IMO only the paint application is worth it. I'm quoted a price of $299 Cdn to get it done.

Re: Ming Ultimate Car Protection
I had mine done last May. I'm quite happy with it so far. At least it's quite low maintenance and still looks good. Here's a pic from last month after a wash.

Gordgee, that looks great. What other benefits do you see with having the package other than a shiny exterior? The exterior and interior I'm willing to do the labour and wax is relatively inexpensive anyways. I'm more concerned about the underbody, anti-rust protection stuff. Doesn't the car some with certain coating to protect from rust?

Re: Ming Ultimate Car Protection
There's a lot of debate re the value of these types of protection packages. Some even say that some anti-corrosion treatments work against the factory treatments. A warranty that lasts about the same time as the factory anti-corrosion warranty is pretty useless, but MING's seems reasonable as it gives you 'Limited Lifetime' with transfer abilities.

As far as the MING Paint Treatment, I know many high-end cars that have this done and are very happy with it. I saw a 4 year old black Porsche that still looked great with only washes and the annual 'Spring Revitalizer'. MING seems better than the other "Perma-Shine" type processes and I've heard that it also helps prevent contaminants from sticking (which usually takes a clay bar to remove).

If you don't mind the labour and a high quality wax/polish like Zaino, Blackfire, CG, or other, I'd say forget about MING'ing it. I did because I was interested in how it would compare with spending a lot of hours Zaino'ing which would have been my other consideration.

BTW, I think you'll get more feedback on the Detail forum, so I'm moving this thread.

Thanks Gordgee. I think I'll get the Ming protection package then.

Re: Ming Ultimate Car Protection
I spent 1/2 the day cleaning up the car. Finally got to use my new Porter Cable R-O polisher to apply the MING Spring Revitalizer. Seems to be a polymer type finish, but the MING people won't say. Anyway, the surface feels slicker, but I'm not sure if it's shinier or not. Here's today's pic.

It's hard to compare just by looking at the picture, especially if one is taken when it's sunny and the other is taken when it's not. But look very shiny to me though

Re: Ming Ultimate Car Protection
What does the Ming protection thing involve? I haven't heard of it. How does it compare with a clearbra? My coupe should be in by the end of this week.

Thanks,
John

Re: Ming Ultimate Car Protection
From what I know, it's just waxing your car, conditioning the leather inside the car, and adding more rustproofing underneath the vehicle. So if you get this package, you'll never had to wax your car again because the dealer will do it for you.
It's not really the same as clear bra. The infiniti dealer offered it to me so I assume that this is a dealer only promotion.

Re: Ming Ultimate Car Protection
Ming is supposedly better than waxing as you only need to get "touch ups" twice a year. I got the Ming paint protection thrown in when I bought my car. I also decided to Zaino the car this summer and it does make a difference. The Ming is mainly for protection and isn't geared towards shine as much as Zaino is. You can also get Ming done on any car or after buying the car directly from a Ming care center. The rust proofing and the interior are the big rip offs here. The paint protection is fairly competitively priced but the underbody and rust is almost double what a good auto car center would charge. Lexol and a little (a lot) of work will take car of the interior.
