Cost to clay bar a car?

I usually do detailing for someone I know. He has a company cars so every year he has me detail them. I completely clean the interior (shampoo the carpets, wash the windows, wipe everything down, condition leather etc.) wash, wax and wipe all of the exterior trim down for $100. He contacted me yesterday saying he wants everything I usually do PLUS pitch removal and a clay bar. This is his personal car (2009 Toyota Land Cruiser) and he never cleans it so it's a decent job. How much should I charge him? I told him the clay bar alone is $20 in materials so he knows it will cost more.

Dried pitch is going to be a royal pain to get off.

It's not too bad if you're using the right products. I'm just not sure how much I should charge him for the pitch removal and clay bar.

Wow! He does detail for that price? Do what ever price you like for your friend. Be fair about it.

What? I do detailing for him and charge $100. That's why I'm asking...I want to know what a fair price for pitch removal and a clay bar is....and remember it's a Land Cruiser, not a Yaris or something.

Most places around me would charge $300-$400 for that much work. I detailed cars during high school and we would reduce the price for vehicles that were already quite clean or were consistent customers.

How much time does it take for a $100 detail job? How long will it take to pitch remove and clay bar? Multiply accordingly.

If it hasn't been clay barred before, it can take awhile. If the car has semi clean paint, a full clay bar can be done in 20 minutes. My car took me over an hour to clay bar because it was covered in rail dust and had never been clay barred in it's life I think. I wanted it nice and clean before I polish it.

Last time I clayed my car, it took me like 3 hours to do it. If I'd be doing it for someone, I'd charge at least $50 an hour, it's painful work.

My personal opinion, when I do a detail I normally would charge way more for a Toyota Land Cruiser detail. Maybe somewhere in the $200 range for a full wash, clay bar, swirl remove, polish, wax, interior, and wheels. But thats also doing a 3 step process. But if its costing you $20 do clay bar, and probably 20min of work, I would say anywhere from $30-$40 extra.. I mean claying, if done right, shouldn't be that much of a hassle and should honestly take no more than 20min on that vehicle.

I finished it yesterday and wrote the invoice for $181 including the pitch removal, clay, wax and complete interior detail along with Zaino Leather products and Scotch Gard. My materials alone were about $60 (not including the time and money it costs to go to the store) and it took about 10 hours total. It really looked nice and I was sad to see it leave.
