Funny how we went from cleaning leather to breakfast to the Simpsons, huh?
I have the Mother's leather cleaner and their conditioner, the Zaino cleaner and their conditioner, and have seen results from the McGuire's, and Connelly. All seem to do a great job, although they seem to lack the yummy bacon smell that can be found elsewhere. I was pretty generous with the Zaino conditioner on my willow interior, and never suffered the "greasy" appearance described elsewhere. In fact, it dried quickly and similarly to the Mother's. I'm very happy with it.
I agree with the notion of getting conditioner on the leather right from the get-go. The way a brand new car soaks it up, it's very clear that by the time we get our cars, the leather is desparate for some TLC. The sun really wails on the interior of a car, regardless of interior or exterior colour, though I really feel for the poor souls with black on black.
Regular conditioning also makes keeping it clean easier, as the grime doesn't seem to infiltrate as easily.
Bottom line. It doesn't matter as much what you apply, as it does that you apply something.

Try a product called 303 Aerospace Protectant. It is a water-based protectant that you use on vinyl dashboards, rubber, and leather. I've been using it for years and it works awesome! I use it on the entire dash (even the silver trim), the tires, and the leather seats, steering wheel, shifter, etc. It not only protects the materials from dehydrating but most importantly acts like a sunscreen for your interior. If used correctly it helps reduce sun fading by up to 100%. The problem with oil based products like Armor All is that they trap in heat and can actually lead to long term damage. 303 is water-based and even smells good. I use 303 on the tires each time I wash the car and on the dash maybe once every 6 weeks or so. For the leather seats I alternate between 303 one month and a leather conditioner the next. 303 is key for preventing sun damage to the leather - I swear by the stuff.

303 is awesome for the dash. But I wouldn't use it on my leather on seats, unless you like it to be nice and shiney.

I use 303 on everything and it does not leave a shine. Maybe you're not wiping it off with a clean cloth after you put it on?

303 did leave the leather a bit shiny after initial application. However, it was a lot less so after a couple of days. I use it sparingly on leather and towel off afterwards which keeps the shine down. According to the 303products.com website, you can also use the 303 fabric protectant on leather. It will not alter the gloss level at all - leather will look the same. I used this one on the carpet and mats. Since I live in southern California, I like the UV protection of the product on leather as well as the dash.
