Cleaning volks
Hey guys,
I ran a search for wheel cleaning and came up with only 1 'good' thread. Normally when I clean wheels I make sure the car was recently driven (brake dust seems to come off alot easier as the wheels are hot/warm). Then I spray some type of wheel cleaner spray on them and wash them off. But I am about to put on my G games wheels that have a polished lip and gunmetal spokes. In the other thread I read someone used megiuars wheel cleaner. I wanted to know what people recommend for Rays/Volks wheels thats safe for a gunmetal/polished lip finish, and the process you guys use to clean them 'safely' so to speak. Last thing I want is my $2500 to be damaged due to improper 'maintenance'. Thanks guys!

by what I've learned and what I already know, I would only wash them with regular car wash soap and water... the key is to wax them really good before you ever put them on your car - I prefer Zaino - and make sure that they are COMPLETELY dry when you are finished (using a microfiber or equivalent towel and/or a leaf blower - but be careful so that you don't shoot debris at your wheels from the ground around you) - congrats on the wheels and I can't wait to see them!

O i forgot to mention, in the same thread I also read about you guys putting down wax on the wheels!! I am assuming this makes cleaning much more easy!! In that thread I searched some said to use Dawn but others mentioned that Dawn eventually makes the rim color 'fade'?? What is that all about?? Last thing I want is for the gunmetal color to fade to light silver!! Thanks for the help guys!! I might have to order zaino and it'll be my first zaino order. is rejex a wheel wax or will any old wax do?? So none of that $4-5 dollar 'wheel cleaner' you just spray on and leave on??

I think the point people are trying to make is that if you stay on top of the brake dust and take care of it regularly there is no need for harsh chemicals. I just use car wash soap and water and the brake dust comes off no problem. The only time I have ever heard of Dawn recommended is if you are trying to remove any polish/protectant from the paint to start over with a clean slate. Personally, I would stay away from any harsh chemicals. Its not worth it to ruin your polished lips by taking the easy way out.
