Best way to clean/wax wheels (Newbie)

Let it be known that I have been reading these forums for the past month now because I was interested in buying a G35. All of you guys have great posts and are real informative which really help out the community.

Anyways, I have the 18" sport package wheels on the 2005 sedan and I want to know what is the best way to clean/wax them. As you guys know the break dust gets on the them and it looks dirty. I have read some about how to clean them but the info is scattered and I really just want a stragiht up answer.

Also, you guys say you wax your wheels? Is this just regular car wax?

Please let me know how to keep these wheels looking good cause they are sweet! Please include technique and products used.

I really appreciate the responses.

regular car wax will do.. put a couple of coats.. make sure its CLEAN when you do it..

as for the most part all you need is some car wash and bottle of compressed air.. if you wash your car regularly then just run it through with a towel and your remaining car wash after your done with the car.. use the compressed air to blow water out of the lug holes and dry.. i usually take my rims off once a month to get the inside

Nice post Klumzyee, you can use lsome waxes like Klasse AIO for tires but some waxes are not as good for wheels. I would clean them with a degreaser first to help break up brake dust and road grime. Then I blow them out so no water is in the lug nuts or other areas, then wipe them off with a clean microfiber. Polish them with p21s finish restorer http://secure.detailedimage.com/Merc...ory_Code=Metal, Wax them with Poorboy's World Wheel Wax http://secure.detailedimage.com/Merc...ory_Code=Wheel. The finish restorer acts as a cleaner and polisher of the wheel and the wax seals in the protection and keeps the brake dust and road grime away. The best part(besides them looking amazing) is that they are so much easier to clean after this process too. I also then coat the wheels with a Poorboy's Bold n' Bright. Leaves a great shine but not that overly glossy look. I know this sounds like a lot but it's really not, takes less than 45 minutes the first time you do it and gets much faster when you repeat it. Actually it shouldn't take you that long bc your car is so new, but make sure you keep it that way! Good luck and lets us know how it looks.

P.S. I just detailed a G35x and did this same process to his wheels/tires and the dealer couldn't believe it, he was offered like 2k over the book value but he sold it outright for like 5k more than that! I attatched some photos of it.

Appreciate the info

Both of those responses were great. Appreciate the info. Really looking forward to washing/waxing/detailing my car this weekend. I took the advice of many members of this board and ordered the zaino products. I will post some pics soon.

The car is just beautiful, I got Diamond Graphite with Stone. This is the first car I ever bought so I am in love with it. Your guys excellent posts make the car that much better. Appreciate it.

Yeah get em really clean and apply wax to them. After that it's really reasy to get the brake dust off as long as you don't let it sit too long. When I wash my car I only use plain water and a sheepskin mit and it comes right off, super easy. no need for harsh chemicals. Just do it weekly, or every two weeks at most and it'll come off easy.

I just put a coat on mine yesterday so we'll see how it goes in the next several weeks. We just had a freak snow fall and the forecast is crappy for forseeable future so it'll likely be a while before I'm on the road though.

poorboys products are awesome!

i'm lazy so this is what i do, i let my rims get dirty for two weeks then i use EagleOne A2Z wheel cleaner. I spray it on the rims and the tires. Let it sit for 30 seconds and then rinse. It should get 95% of the junk off, finish the rest with wash mitt. Takes about 15 minutes, and the results are amazing. Its great because i can put some tire spray on my tires right after too, since the A2Z cleans tire too!

if you are going to wax your rims, I'd suggest you use a synthetic polymer not a natural wax. Zanio/Poorboys/NXt/AIO should work great. A natural wax would probably melt off really quick because the rims get really hot!

You definitely want to use wax specifically for WHEELS. Brake dust tends to etch into your clear coat on your wheels and I use WheelWax (www.wheelwax.com)...it's priced well and works really well...see the post I made in this forum under "Wheel Wax review" for mine and others success stories.
