Scratched Clear Coat

Scratched Clear Coat
During the process of removing some caked-on bird dung, I scratched the clear coat in a very visible spot on the hood (about 4" x 4" area). I'm not sure how this happened - just used a wet cloth to remove the dung. It was pretty well baked on though - must have had some abrasive chunks or something. Anyway, is there anything I can use to buff out the clear coat? I've tried a couple of wax applications with no luck. Is this something a pro could fix for me?

Lot's of good data in the detailing forums..
Also go look over at www.detailcity.com - great professional detailing forum.
Unless you really did some serious damage you should AT LEAST be able to greatly improve the appearance.
Pics?

You can get that out. I was able to get dung etching out but I just had to be careful. I wetsanded then I compounded and polished.
Before
After wetsanding, compounding and polishing.
Just make sure the detailer takes a paint reading before attacking that spot. Hopefully the dung didn't eat through the clearcoat. A paint reading should let you know.
Hope that helps but if you have more questions fire me a pm.

By the way, how did you debadge? It shouldn't look like that if done properly.

I should have never debadged this part, the "infiniti" was debadged perfectly, but it looks like the "g35x" was not removed when the clear coat was added.
How much would a spot repaint cost? Btw the whole bumper doesnt have to be repainted right?
