Cleaning the inside of your wheels

Hey Guys,
Any tricks to cleaning the inner wheel without taking your wheel off? I take the wheels off maybe 2-3 times a year to do a through cleaning but this brake dust is killing me as it builds up almost immediately.

Nothing you can really do about it unless you get a special wheel brush that can access those areas. I have about 8 coats of zaino on my wheels, outside and inside. The inside remains dirty no matter what. I don't know how it is with the 05 stock wheels. But the 18" wheels it was impossible to clean the inside with the wheel still on the car. With my after-market wheels, I can clean the inside with the wheel on, but would require a brush of sorts. I don't bother.

Get married, get a baby, make him wash...

On the meantime, I just get a towel and go as far as I can to clean.

Ahhhh PUff - not impossible! Just gott ahave the right tools! WIth the 18's I was able to finagle a bit to clean it pretty well. That was with a standard wash mitt. But I found sumtin better. I found a great tool that is cheaper then dirst and works great! I found it at a discount drug store (Harmon) but many places should have em. It's got a thin flat 1" wide plastic handle and at the end has this sponge thing, looks kinda like a Thick French Fries (each ffinger or fry is about 1/4" or so. The foam sponge fits snug in the hole at the end and because its flat, let's you get into some really tight spots! My wheels both front n back look great. As long as you keep up with it, you should have no worries.

Oh yeah, it cost $.99......yeah as in 99 cents! Been using it for months! Just rinse when ur done and its like new!

The cleaning tool he is describing sounds like the sponge you use to wash dishes. It's like a shredded sponge on a plastic stick. I'm sure Walmart has this in the kitchen section.

Puff - Espresso knows what I am talking about! LOL - I'll take a pic when I get home tonight and post up. Think of a spatuala type plastic handle, flat etc. then it has like I dunno how how to explain. I guess if you took those stretch fabric gloves that chics wear and place one facing left the other rightand overlap the wrist parts.....that wrist part is what is centered in the handle and the fingers are the sponges. I'll take a pic it's easier! LOL If anything I can go pick a bunch up and give it to ya on June 25!

Thanks for the help guys. Looks like I will be pulling the wheel off every few months. I just can't stand to have a clean wheel face while the inside is caked with brake dust/dirt. I think the OEM 19s expose the inside more than the 18"s.

I pulled my 18"s off last week and cleaned most of the brake dust out, next time I am just going to powerwash the inside because it doesn't have a finish on it.

what are good brake pads that don't shed as much brake pads as the OEM's? I think this is most of the problem.

Just a rmeinder guys, that sponge thing I use really gets the inside of the wheel nicely! Does a great job and the back part of my wheels look very good, no rust, no brake dust etc. The thin handle and softness of the sponge work wonders without scratching the wheel.

In addition, the brake dust is killing me as well. I want to get a group buy going for Project Mu brake pads. Supposedly they brake equal to or better then stock, lil to no squeeking, and only slightly more dust then the hawks! They make 2 types for street use BForce and Mu NS - Their website gives the comaprisons betwen all their pads but I ofund that these would be best for normal daily street driving and some high spirited street driving. Prices I found so far were about 108 front & 100 rear for the BFORCE (Brembos) (99 & 92) Non Brembos. NS were about 89 & 76 (Brembos) - 77 & 68 (Non Brembos). This are non group buy pricing. I shopped a few places online and all the prices were about the same give or take a few bucks (like $1-2). I may try to do some more digging and find who is willing to give the best price. By all means if you know dealers that will offer a great rate on these pads, by all means post up!
