Detailing towels - advice

I need to get a full set so I was thinking about tossing my crappy walmart ones (using for rags :-) ). What does everything think of the following

1 drying waffle weave
2 plush detailing micro
2 applicators

I don't think I need glass ones the walmart ones should work? And nicer terry microfibers probably aren't needed, the other ones should be sufficent.

now for wash mitt, is microfiber worthwhile or cotton? I have read that microfiber wash mitts can scratch the paint, any recommendation here?

I am planning on buying from waynestowels (heard good things on another board) just wanted to see what your suggestions were.

I like sheepskin mitts - they're easier to get dirt out of than microfibre, so less chance of swirls. For everything else I like mf. Just make sure they don't have tags or exposed thread on the edges and odds are you'll be ok. The amount you get depends on what you're doing. I like having two drying towels because one always gets wet by the time I move to the back of the car.

My sheepskin mitt scratched my paint so needless to say it went straight into the garbage can, have been using 100% cotton towels eversince. For drying, try the Big Blue.

Hit up www.detailingdynamics.com

Everything they sell they use on Ferrari's n Lambos....Their car wash is second to none and their wheel shampoo is PH balanced so it will not harm any wheel!

They also sell great MF towels and wash supplies! I love their products!

I hesitate to ask, but were you using two buckets? I've just always had good luck with sheepskin.

I would never skimp on microfiber towels because I use them to remove the product even when I apply with the PC. The microfiber towel touches various parts of your paint with some firm pressure. I use these microfiber towels and I have found them to be very plush even after years of washing and frequent use. I've used many store brand ones but I don't think they compare in quality or results, those micros are now relegated to door jambs and wheel wells.

Fiber-works.com, great prices, amazing quality
the new bigger WW drying towels are awesome and their orange extra plush towels are sweet, I have tried many and they all failed the CD scratch test except this brand
I would skip the applicators though, I find a lot of mf applicators soak up too much product and just go with meguiars foam pads that are really cheap so they are pretty disposable
I also actually use the zoom mf mits from target, no scratches and they are cheap too
