New car wax/claybar

When do you guys suggest claybarring and waxing a new car? I think the dealer might have done something b/c the paint is smooth. But I always thought it was a good idea to get a good claybar/wax for a new car b/c of possible rail dust and stuff during transport. Then again, I understand the G has soft paint and was unsure if the paint needs time to set?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

IMO...new cars this days have a better coating than they did in the past. There's really no recommendation on how early you can start waxing. For example I actually waxed my car 2 wks after I bought it. Was it worth it? SURE if you like the nice silky smooth feeling. Did I have to? No...I'd recommend for the first 2 months, after washing it, go over it with a sample liquid wax such as Meguiar's NXT because that really helps with the water spots. I've also used Eagle 1's product (forgot the name) as a follow up for the next couple of days to help maintain the new look.

In terms of clay bar your ride..do you have an ivory pearl car? When you start to notice that your car doesn't retain that shinny, smooth texture anymore, that's when you should think about the clay bar. When you do clay bar your car, use the Meguiar liquid wax as an applicator. It really helps the process out.

Paint requires no cure time when you take delivery from a dealer. The paint is baked at the factory and has plenty of time to cure on its way to the US dealers.

Claying your paint is fine at any time. Just remember that it removes not only contaminents, but polishes and waxes as well. So, you will need to reapply once you have clayed your finish.

I've detailed several brand new vehicles, (with no dealer prep) with less than 10 miles on them and there is a lot of rail dust from transet. There is always contamination that builds up that needs removal it's just a question of how much care do you wanna give your car. For a brand vehicle I recommend you: wash/dry - clay - seal - wheel wax it.
