Do we need one? What is a good price?

I looked online and companies are offering 10 yr, 100k mi warranty for $1200. I hear getting them to pay for repairs can be tricky if not impossible. What did you all do?

If I keep it, I'll get an extended warranty through the dealership. It may cost more (probably around $1800), but it's less hassle getting them to pay for repairs.

Pay attention to your deductible and to what's actually covered. Many extended warranties are not bumper-to-bumper, and some won't replace parts if the failure was due to a defective non-covered part.

Another issue is the financial health of the company providing the warranty. It doesn't matter how good the coverage is if the company that provides it is out of business when you need to file a claim.

Don't buy extended warranty. It's a waste of money. The factory 4yr/60k is good enough for me. When it does become 4 years old, our cars are obsolete and would be slow like the Geo Metro's we have now. And prob. the stock cars in 2008 would be 400-500hp in stock form. LOL

Just sell the car @ 4yrs. or keep it and run for another few more years. It's a japanese engine, reliable as hell and almost major maintaince free. It will run 200,000 miles with out breaking a sweat.

 

That's the thing.. the powertrain is fine. If you get an extended warranty, it should be something bumper-to-bumper, so that it covers burned out window motors and failing stereos and stripped gears on power seats.
