350 dollar detail?

i just recent called this detailer to take a look at my car,its in dire need for all my swirl makrs to be removed..my car looks terrible in the sun,i dont know what the previous owner did to the car,but its a disaster in the sun, swirl makrs all over the place, haziness everywhere i didnt see all this before untill the detailer told me to position the car in diffrent ways directly in the sun,its pretty bad over all he quoted me 350bucks to take everything off and gave me his word he can get all of it off no problem..,i think 350bucks is way high, ive never done this before went this route...and used a professional detailer,so i didnt know what to expect..he told me its a 6 step process including teflon, compund and some other stuff he told me overall it takes about 6 hours to do,do you guys think this guy is ripping me off,or is this normal?

i think 350 is a bit steep. but then again i haven't seen his work on any other cars so i can't say he doesn't do a good job. try going to another dealer? where are you located? i know this bomb detailer that another G driver recommended in woodland hills. much cheaper than what that guy quoted you.

Well, I paid $250 about a year ago to detail my car. They said it would require a solid wash, basic wet sanding, polishing, buffing, blah blah. I got it back and it looked about the same and they missed a bunch of spots. So for me, I'll just do it myself from now on. I think $350 would be fair for a great detail and removing fine swirl marks. That is, of course, if they actually do it.

You can get a Porter Cable for around $130.00 (around 189.00 for a kit with foam pads) and do it right yourself.

Carlos, get on autopia.org or detail city, all the guys on there are maniacs about detailing and I'm sure you won't have a problem finding someone in Miami that can help you out and bring his own tools too. If they charge you anything for it, it will be next to nothing. You also might want to contact Jon (Florida G35 Club sponsor) for a quote, here is a whole thread with pictures of his work

I'll say this - doing it yourself is a great idea, however you'll spend more then $350 and also spend a lot of time learning to do it right. In the end you'll save money because you'll be able to keep your car clean yourself, but that's certainly not for everyone.

$350 is not a high estimate if your car needs a lot of work. If there are no touchups/wetsanding required that does seem like a lot of time but honestly if the car needs multiple compounding steps followed by polishing and an lsp (along with a wash, clay, tire cleaning, dressing the tires, wheel wells, rubber trim, plastic trim, polishing the headlamps and chrome, and detailing the interior), it can take 6 hours. Just make sure he has references and you've seen examples of his work - I'd also ask him for a list of products he's using, just for future reference and to make sure he isn't using any crap.

Cheers.

I charge around $350 for detailing. It's a fair price if they do it right and get out all of the imperfections. $350 would include:

Exterior: wheels weels, tires, paint to like new condition (IP, PO105FF, and finished with FMJ), windows, tail pipes)

Interior: spot cleaned, vacuumed, windows, vents, crevices, leather conditioned, dash dressed).

4-5 hr job. For a car that looks "bad" in the sun... it's not that difficult. I was able to get this car done in about 5hrs using Menzerna PO106FF and FMJ only. This one was $350 because I was able to 2 step the paint.

You can find more pics at http://www.attn-to-details.com/vehicles/ Sorry about not indexing and creating a page for each. Haven't felt like doing that yet hehe.

Don't mean to question the quality but one pic is in direct sunlight and one is not. But alas, I digress.

Not to go OT, but I've seen quite a bit of FF's work over at Autopia, I'd trust him with my car.

Cheers.

350 isn't that bad. I was quoted 300 to clean up my car (black car)... Prices get more expensive as to size.. smaller vehicles do cost as much as large vehicles since it's harder to work with. Black and darker colors obviously have more upkeep.

picus112: thanks man. you do nice work as well.

whyjay91: does this look better for you?

Can't always get the same angles after hours of work. I appreciate that comment as it is always best to offer the same angles and lighting but which cannot always be replicated in an outside environment.
