Newly painted-- wash/wax question

I just got a new bumper and hood, and both were painted at the body shop. I know not to wax it for about 90 days, but why exactly is that? Is it because it keeps the paint from curing properly, or is it because the waxing/buffing motion could rub it off or cause swirls?

I'm one of those people who keeps the G meticulously clean and shiney, so I was wondering if it's the latter... I could then use something like EagleOne during the wash just get give it that shine. CG also is a no-buff product, so can I use that?

Any input is appreciated, thanks

I'm with you. I can't imagine going a month w/out waxing the car let alone 90 days.

So no shine for a while? Crapmongers. What's the point in getting in an accident so you can get a newly painted hood if you can't protect it?

I really want to-- I use CG and so far it's not failed me. That being said-- you said it was the curing thing, which would mean that CG nor EagleOne would be good. I need a chemist.

Re: Newly painted-- wash/wax question

you dont need a chemist bro, but I know what your saying.

The paint right now is super fresh (obviousl) and it has a real nice shine to it as is.

leave it out in the sun and it will "cure" alot faster (obvious too)

don't stress too much, before you know it, you'll be able to shine and protect it up man.

laterrrr

Thanks man, that's the plan.... Sort of a catch-22 to park it outside. Gotta watch the weather closely.

Re: Newly painted-- wash/wax question

90 days? I was told to leave my bumper alone for 6 weeks. Ouch.

You can wash it all you want in that time, and 3 months isn't enough time for the sun to really do any damage. So no real worries there.

Re: Newly painted-- wash/wax question

90 days is the rule of thumb for playing it safe. 6 Weeks is cool. Ask your body shop guy if the paint is baked on. My body shop guy bakes the paint on and it is cured from the moment I pick the car back up. Than I go home and wax it right away haha!

Thanks - Joey Avino
