Re: 20% Tint Good?
oops, thats what I meant. 20 on the sides and 15 in the back.

How do you think that would look? I dont want it to look cheap, I want in to blend in nicely to the dark blue of my car.

Re: 20% Tint Good?
In CA, the legal limit for front windows is 77% (basically clear). The back three you can paint black if you want; there is no legal requirement for rear visibility except a driver's side view mirror. This is why cargo vans, motorhomes, camper pickups, etc., aren't cited constantly.

That said, my experience over several cars and varying degrees of window tint is that at 25% on the fronts, you start to have a hard time seeing around corners at night. It's fine in the daytime, but it becomes a hazard a few hours later, especially for dark cars, bicycles w/o lights, and pedestrians. At 30% or higher, it is much better. If you are in an at-fault accident in CA and the cops show up, expect an extra citation if your fronts are dark.

I'm still debating on mine, either 32/22 or 32/32.

Re: Metal film tint on '04, Tire Pressure Warning Light
Had my new '04 Coupe (Twilight/Graph) done yesterday (50% sides, 35 back - MD has 35 limit, and since the windows have a little tint from the factory, I decided to stay legal on the sides). It looks good to me, but that's not why I'm posting. This morning, my one-week old G shoots me a low tire pressure warning. I get out -- 32psi all around. I look up the light in the manual -- Page 5-4 has a Caution Do not place metalized film or any metal parts (antenna, etc.) on the windows. This may cause poor reception of the signals from the tire pressure sensors, and the low tire pressure warning system will not function properly..

The tint applied was SunTek™. I called CA Tint and the guy told me that he can put on a non-metal charcoal film, but that it will fade and won't reflect the heat.

I'm going to put a little more air in the tires, but I'm not sure what I'm going to choose to do if the light stays on.

Hey Cloxo,
How much did you get charged for the tint job? Where is CA Tint located? Thanks.

Re: 20% Tint Good?
i have 15% on all and i think its still not dark enough. You can still see in, but they are not strict on the laws where i live.

Re: 20% Tint Good?
I did 19 metallic on the rears, 28 metallic on the fronts and 50 metallic on the windshield. (all solarguard quantum).

Except for the rears, all non-CA approved.

No letter from the tint guy...its my prob if I get a ticket.

Re: 20% Tint Good?
hey, guys with 15%-20% tints, do you find it hard to see at night?
The laws in Ontario are not as strict, but I don't want to be running over cyclists or parked cars on a nightly basis...

Re: 20% Tint Good?
its funny, i had very dark, 5% on my last car and visibility out at night was never a problem.

Now i have lighter 15% on the coupe and it is a little difficult to see out of the sides at night. Have to be careful making turns. Guess it depends on each specific car.

I would really like something darker on mine, but the shop i went to won't go darker and i'm reluctant since its allready a little tough to see out the sides at night.
