Towels vs. Chamois for drying

In the past I have always used a chamois for drying my previous cars. Always worked well. Yes, I would get swirl marks...but I think that was more due to the 10 year old paint...and previous owner care.

I just bought an 06 IP Coupe and want to make the right choice for washing and drying. I do have a leaf blower...but I can picture dust and other crap kicking up onto the surface.

I found this link on Zaino's site for washing/drying with cotton towels.

Does anyone wash AND dry with 100% cotton towels? I went out and bought some white towels...and while they are soft...I can almost picture the knit contributing to swirl marks.

If this is a better choice than a wash mit/chamois I would love to go this route...Thanks for any help

Here are the links to the products I use. People have different opinions on different products (and rightfully so), so I will just post what's been good to me.

Wash mitts: 100% skeepskin only.

http://www.carcaresmart.com/page/C/PROD/_MDT/WM0200140

Other options are microfiber mitts, but I find they hold on to dirt too much and are hard to rinse.

Drying: waffle weave microfiber

http://www.carcaresmart.com/page/C/PROD/_MMP/MT1600411

I use two. Other options are regular mf drying towels, terry cloth, or chamois. I dislike chamois because they've caused scratches for me, and regular microfiber doesn't hold as much water as the waffle weave.

Regular buffing: min 75% microfiber mf cloths.

Kind of $, so another options is polyester, though polyester can scratch. (http://www.carcaresmart.com/page/C/PROD/_MMP/MT0300110), another options is terry, but again - I find terry scratches more than mf.

In the summer I wash between 5-15 cars a week and have my product choices pretty much down to a science. I hope this helps.

I love this towel for drying...

It is very soft and works GREAT

I also have used the Big Blue II which is great as well but for darker color cars it seems to be a bit harsher than the yellow one.

I've been using waffle weave micro fiber towels which leave no swirl marks.
I also have used The Absorber (synthetic shammy), which while very soft, does not absorb as well as the wwmf towels. I need 2 towels to dry my car.
I wash with a mf mitt.

I have worked at 3 car dealerships and at all 3 they have used chamois. I think all dealerships use them since they are so much softer and more economic than a regular towel. I use a chamois on my car and i works wonderfully

What about the California Water Balde? I have used that on my past 2 vehicles and it works great! The only complaint about it is that it can't get in some of the tight spots on a car. So for that I just keep a towel in my back pockets and use when needed. It is a very fast and efficient method. I can dry my G coupe in well under 10 minutes.

I've been using The Absorber for the past 9 years on my cars with great results.

I use Griot's Garage 100% cotton drying towel. It really works well and I strongly recommend it

I like synthetic towels like "The Absorber."

You can find it and products like it in WalMart, Target, Autozone, Advance Auto Parts, many places.

http://www.theabsorber.com/home.html

It holds much more water than you'd think is possible, and makes for an incredibly easy experience drying the car. Just lay it flat, drag smoothly, and it leaves a perfectly dry area behind.

Waffle Weave towels are the best. Just got to pep boys or local auto store and buy MEQUIRE'S WATER MAGNET!! Works wonders.

Thanks again for the input! Did the first virgin wash on my 06 IP the other day. I ended up purchasing a Sonus wash kit...which included the waffle towel Triji suggested.

Great results! That thing holds a lot of water! haha
