Bird poop stained clearcoat

Hows it going guys.
I have a question...I had some stupid crow poop on my car at work Thursday morning. Thursday evening...after work...I sprayed it off with my detailer and gave it a quick spot polish. Well....it turns out you can see where the poop was (acid stained clear coat). Is there anyway I can get rid of that?
I dont understand why it stained so quickly.
Thanks all,
Fern

Yep - if you're working by hand try some ScratchX (made by meguairs, comes in a tube), you can find it at almost any local auto parts store. Grab a foam applicator and apply a dab of the scracthx to it (about the size of a nickel), rub the product into the etching using some pressure and move the pad quickly (you want to create heat and friction to break down the abrasives). When done wipe residue away with a soft mf cloth and repeat until the etching is gone.

Why do bird bombs etch so quickly? You said it - their highly acidic depending on what the bird ate that day. Some won't etch for weeks, some will in minutes. Luckily they can be removed fairly easily.

Cheers.

I had an etching problem on my previous car. The bird crap etched the clearcoat on the hood of my '02 BMW. I clayed the area where the crap was and let the paint breathe for a week. The etch went away on its own and then I polished and waxed the spot and it was good as new.

MR. E, Bird boop can do it in the matter of minutes depending what they had to eat. Like Picus said. I have a few spots on my hood now that were on there half a day and it etched into my hood.

Wow, this is really a great news. I didn't know that ScratchX could remove bird boop stain. I have plenty of them on my IP...sigh...
By the way, I plan to clay bar and then zaino my car. Should I do it before claying or after claying?

Thanks

I'd do it after, just so you know the car is completely clean before you start polishing. So wash, clay, polish, zaino. Cheers.

That's right, and depending on the temperature, it can happen right away. I always carry water and a towel in my trunk and wipe that stuff off as soon as I find it.

If the stain is an actual stain (as in, a yellow discoloration of "junk" left by the poop), yes. If it's an etching, then no, you'll need to polish.

Grab some ScratchX at a local popboys or autozone. It may take a few passes but that should do it.
