Anybody know this Maxima? (BlueBOB, Mr. Uy???)

So I'm browsing for a car to replace the G, and I'm looking at this Maxima... It's modified, so I'm wondering if anyone here knows the former owner, if the car is even good? I would post at DNE, but they won't let me. Waaaaa.

Clickity click.

Never seen it... .definitely not stock wheels. Looks clean. I can definitely help you with anything on that car... same year as mine!

Sweet man, if the G was sold, I'd have that Maxima in the driveway now. Do you think the tires look a bit oversized? Or is it just lowered? Both? Hard for me to tell... Want to go check it out for me? It's just off 75 and Ross. Too far for me to drive right now.

I'm in Chicago at the moment, so perhaps I can swing out there on Saturday (maybe)

Wheels are definitely not stock, it's easy to check if it's lowered

I've never seen it either, the sidewalls are a bit large on it, and to me it looks like it may be dropped, less than an inch if so though, I had a 95 as well, still have parts for it even...

finally being able to take a close look... definitely an SE, looks conservatively dropped (perhaps Maxspeeds). Stock shifter and interior. Those wheels are stock wheels off of some other nissan vehicle (i swear i see the nissan logo in th e middle of the wheel).

Yeah I think they look like the wheels from the newer Maxima. Trying to decide between that car, an old J30, a modified '92 325i, or a '98 or '99 1.8T Passat.
Thoughts?

forget the bmw and the vw... both are maintenance nightmares...

almost the entire family of VW turbo cars are on the worst reliable cars according to CNN Money

J30 is the old 300ZX motor, so tons of parts there... and the maxima is relatively cheap to fix, should anything occur... mine's got 181k miles on it and still runs fairly strong

My only hang up on the Maxima is front wheel drive. That's why the J30. But if the Maxima is as promising as some make it out to be, I can see one in my future. Can you guarantee I won't be disappointed?

yea, the fwd is... well, fwd. but it's still got heart. she won't be as quick as the G (of course) but she'll have some fun.

I recommend driving it though... I've had quite some fun with mine...

So just look for dry rot on the boots? How often do the CV joints need replacing (usually?). My only experience with FWD was an old Honda Accord and, well, that thing didn't need CV joints till well into 200k miles.

they tend to crack easy in the accordion part, so once the boot goes, the cv joints go right with them

the cv joints I don't need to be replaced that often, but I think mine's bad and the comment may be more my irritation than a problem... haha

yea, i've heard of quite a few people having to change the alternator, but usually just once. I've been lucky (knock on wood) to not have to replace mine yet. it's pretty easy though
