Compression rod help

Guys, I tried installing my compression rods today and I'm having a hell of a time.

If you look at the attached pic. On the left is the old rod with the old ball joint and on the right is the new rod.

Do I need to take off that spacer looking thing off of the old one and put it on the new one. That thing won't bulge. Hope the DFW guys can give some local help...

Angry

I soaked it in WD-40. I went to Oreilly's and bought a gear puller to try to pull the thing off and that was a disaster. It's pressed in there pretty good. I may need to wait until Monday and stop by the Infiniti or Nissan dealership to see if they have it in stock. I bet it's just a $4 part.

hey Roland I had the same problem when installing my camber arms.....same type part had to come off, it took ALOT of force but it finally popped off, I forget what they used, but it was a wedge like object that wedged underneith the piece and a a lever on top that forced down while pushing form the bottom up

There was a TSB somewhere on the compression rods. Get yourself a pittman arm puller - it's a tapered two prong fork that you can wedge in there with a hammer (and hopefully not damage it).

Hate to give a rude awakening, but I doubt it will only be $4. I had to get a couple of bolts and nuts replaced, and those were $4 a piece at wholesale! But yeah, they can order any single part you could ever need.

I tried to find that part separately, but they don't sell that piece by itself. I used a jaw puller that I rented from Autozone to take it off. You have to wedge it in and tighten the nut. Took awhile since it doesn't exactly attach on easily since it's so small, but it got the job done.

This is what it looks like:

The compression rods are squeaking a lot. Especially when it is cool outside. I put the car in reverse and it sounds like a screeching sound. Goes away when it warms up outside.

I did try using this tool and the arms kept slipping off. I may try one of the pitman tools. Seems like those do not have movable arms, but stationary ones.

Yup, I believe it to be ~$7 each.

Still need to verify this is the part though.

Thanks for the help guys. I may go buy one of those pitman puller tools. Hopefully I can resolve this soon.
