Question Strut Life

Gents,

What can I expect out of my factory struts mileage wise?

I'm looking to get unrevised Z springs and Z struts for my sedan, what's the life expectancy on a pair of springs and a pair of struts...Thought about used but something seems to scare me about used struts...Thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks...

I have about 91k miles on mine, and have been lowered on 350Z H-tech springs for quite a whiles. The shocks are still good, but I'll be replacing them soon.

Will do you have a camber kit too?

I am a total noob to G35 suspension so you have to educate me.

Wow, that pretty impressive to have the stock struts last for 91K miles. Guess it must differ from car to car.

I have stock struts on my 350z HTechs, and 15k miles later, so far so good. No camber kit needed for me.

Probably a matter of opinion too - Will's idea of 'worn out' could be completely different from yours. Keep in mind also that the Z shocks are considerably shorter than the sedan shocks (see below), so be sure you do replace them when you lower your sedan - or you can expect shorter life out of your sedan shocks for sure. Z shocks are very solid compared to the squishy sedan set so I wouldn't worry too much about buying used, but remember, unrevised shocks are going on at least four years old now or older. I would just go revised at this point, IMO.

I have a line on a set of Z struts and springs with 21K miles...Seems like I should have at least another 30-40K on the struts...I'm definately doing new struts when I do the springs to offset the longer throw of my stock struts...

So real question: Z springs and struts or an All Coupe Set-up?

Prequel to your question: How low do you want to go? Z springs will give you 1" of drop all round and the coupe set-up with give you half that. If you've done your reading I'm sure you've seen a lot of sedans go front Z and rear coupe to make up for some difference in ride, but I've heard both sides argued to no avail. When I dropped my sedan it was on revised Z shocks and Hotchkis Z springs, which totalled to almost a 1.5 - 2" drop.

So how dramatic do you want your transformation? I would go all Z in your position. With only 21k miles on the parts you should be good, not having any alignment issues either. Let us know what you decide!

I want a moderate drop...I want to maintain most of my drivability and won't put the new suspension on until I get rims/tires...

Ideally No more than an 1" to 1.5" at the very most...I'm going to put 19's or 20's on it in the next few months, so I'm essentially looking to drop it back down after I put them on...

The mix and match seems like a headache to locate parts and sounds like I'll end up buying two sets of springs to accomplish the desired result...negative.

The all Z set-up seems to be the predominant mod, and from what I've seen shouldn't require a camber kit, just a re-align...My only thinking on the all coupe set-up was that I like the idea of modding, but still keeping all infiniti parts...

I'm leaning all Z set-up at this point, but have a few months before rims so I'm not rushing into something... I wish I could ride in both set-ups on a sedan to see what they were like...

sorry to dig this up from the dead, but i have an 04 sedan and if i look for a z in the boneyard or sometin can i put the entire springs/strut combo on my car for a nice drop with no camber issues? this would yield about a 1.5-2.0" drop right?

The Z springs will give you a 1 inch drop...not 1.5-2. And usually there are no camber issues with a 1 inch drop.

I am on the 350Z Unrevised Springs and the Stock Non-Sport Sedan Struts and have no problem with camber that I can tell...
