My alignment story...

Ok so, I started to type this elsewhere, but decided it deserved its own thread, ya'll chime in if any of this sounds suspicious.

I'm very limited in the Arlington area for alignment shops. Firestones are communists ( I know I used to be a vendor) NTB wants to charge an addtional $30 because its lowered, so I said F them ( they always F up my cars, but I keep giving them another shot... NO MORE.)
I was in a hurry cause I had mad camber after my drop on S-techs.
So I had Pep Boys do it....

It was Superbowl Sunday, and I had to drive to Richardson for a party. (Under normal circumstances, I would never take it to Manny, More OR Jack.)
Clearly, I was in a pinch.

Plus...

I just put my SPC camber/toe kit on, so my alingment in the rear consisted of me "eyeballing it" which can never be good. I tried to talk the mechanic into not setting my alignment so negative (stock) and he procceded to ramble about contact patch and the way the car was engineered blah blah blah... I'm like "fine, get it done." ( I completely understand the basics of camber etc, I just didn't want to chew up tires.)

So i'm chillin, reading a magazine when the guy comes and gets me. He says "whellp... theres no specs for camber in the puter, so whut do you want it set at?" Great!
So we hash it out for a minute, and guess at -.5 figuring that stock is about -1 degree. Why not right?

Well......I may be glad at some point, but right now, I think it looks funny. It looks like NO camber. I def have more in front, which I found out there is no adjustment for...

So, I thought about doing an equal # of turns on the Camber arms to put a little back in, but i'm afraid it will introduce toe, and wear my tires worse than the camber alone.

Anyway, am I a mongoloid? Should I be extactic that I have basicly no rear camber? Maybe its cause i'm a mini-trucker, and I think camber is cool. Just not on tires that are like 300 bones each...

Hit me up, tell me what you think.

What whoopin....

Didn't know you are in Arlington. I had mine done at an alignment shop called Stagner's Garage. They're off Cooper and Arkansas. The guy did a pretty good job on my alignment. I don't have a shot of my car directly from behind, but here is one that is close enough

Dallas Frame & Alignment... 35 and Royal... one of the best damn shops in town..

best thing about them... they have zero computers/machines. everything is done the old fashion way and they're great at it.

My issue with them is that they beat you up on future service.
Say you go in to have a flat repaired. They will show you a list of maintence issues that "you really should consider doing" when you go to pay.
It'll total $500-$1000 or something crazy.
Some of you maybe thinking, "hey, sounds like their looking out for the customer..."
Thats not it at all, they are the people who take advantage of people who don't know what most of us do about our vehicles. They use scare tactics, "oh ma'am, you should let us replace that, adjust this, or it will wear out, cause damage blah blah blah to other parts of your car. Its a company directive, i've sat and had lunch with managers and they've told me. Get as much service dollars out of the customer on each visit. Upsell upsell upsell.

Look at me on a rant. g35rcr, i'm sincerely glad that you have found a Firestone that does good work, i'm sure that some exist somewhere. (I wonder where you're located...) I just worked in the aftermarket indstury too long, I know too much about the inner workings of these compaines.
Kinda like not wanting to eat at a resturant that you worked at I guess, you know too much negative about the food prep...

Ok, as I wisk myself off the all mighty soap box. Jeeezz I hope nobody goes defending NTB....

I have my alignments done at firestone in Plano off Park/Ohio. They gave me the whole "You're up for your 90k mile maintenance...bla bla bla" But I just blew it off. No biggie, they were cool guys. The alignment tech has been doing alignments for 17 years from what they said. I came in one day and he wasn't there, and they didn't trust anyone else to align my car. So I had to come back the next day when he worked.

I have been doing alignments at firestone, and its really hit or miss, try to go in an upscale area, they tend to know more about the expensive cars. Coit/ Legacy was good. but i think park ohio is better! in fact I know it is. what is the name of your guy. I have been doing my honda at Firestone. Not ready for the G

I don't know the name of the guy, just go up there and say your friend w/ a white G35 recommended them. They should remember me, as I just got it realigned a few weeks ago.

I have no experience with DFA, so this is just my .02, If they aligned it dead nuts straight (yes, thats a technical term) than on a peaked road (for rain run off) it might pull. I don't know how bad of a pull it is so.... Just trying to make sense of your experience.
(LOL.... if you said that Firestone did that to you, i'd be like "See!!!! I told ya!!!!", man i'm an a$$hole...LOL)
