I would love to do some AutoX big time. I just don't know enough about whats okay, whats not and how the classes work. I've checked the site and done some reading on the classes.
Thing for me is, I have the different tires and f&r sway bars so I'd probably have to change that or I'd be in a class with some much higher modified peeps. Just don't know how competitive I'd be.

I autocross frequently (but not in the G -- in the Evo).
I normally run with the Texas SCCA and Equipe Rapide.
Texas SCCA: http://www.autocross.com/tr
Very competive, 4 runs typically
Equipe Rapide: http://www.autocross.com/er
Not quite as competitive, pay $10 extra for 2 more runs (6 total)
There is also the Lonestar BMW CCA, Maverick Porsche club (PCA), S2000 club, Miata club and a couple others.
I usually use this calendar: http://www.dfwmiata.com/component/op.../task,calendar
As far as classing, under SCCA rules, you won't be able to run in a stock class with sway bars (not that you'd want to since you'd need R compounds). Tires are ok in just about any class since you aren't AWD.
I think the best class, assuming no engine mods (beyond intake/exhaust) would likely be STX as long as you're running < 245 width tires. You could go to STU and run a wider tire (265?) but then you're going up against Evos and STi's (brutality!).
In any case, I recommend running Novice (so NSTX or NSTU) or Tire (so TSTX, TSTU) pax because the G is simply too heavy to be competitive. Running in one of the pax classes will allow you to compete against different vehicles.
For what it's worth, I run NSTU in my 08 Evo. I ran NAS (Novice A Stock) my first time out and would have gotten much closer to the podium if I'd simply classed into NSTU.
I'm no expert, but the first time out (SCCA) I was in the middle of the Novice pack. Next time (SCCA)? 2nd. Next two times (ER)? First.
Autocross is fun, but you're going to burn a lot of time (ER events normally wrap up by 2-3pm, SCCA run longer) and not get a lot of seat time. Then again, it's only $25-40. A full day out at MSR, through Apex (who I *HIGHLY* recommend) will be $200+. Two day event with Drivers Edge (again, very good) is close to $300.
