music/file format experts

I have downloaded some songs/tracks off of the internet... some of these tracks are over 2 hrs long (trance/house music mixes).
Some of them dont allow me skip to the middle of the track. If I try to, it goes to the beginning of the track.
Does anybody know if I have can fix that, by changing the format or properties or something?

TIA

What format are they in?? (MP3 WAV...)
I can fix it for you... I would need the song and what i would do is break it down into several tracks so instead of having one big @ss track (2 Hrs) i would do like 10 Minute tracks until the end of the song...
but anyways i can fix it..
Send me a text...

^ Hey Danny,
Its .flv, I changed it to .mp3, but same issue.
Well, ideally, I would want to be able to just jump anywhere in the track (like how you can usually do to all other tracks).
Can you do that?

That's odd, you converted to an Mp3 and you still can't skip forward or backward?

Host the file up somewhere and let me take a crack at it.

also what program did you use to convert it?

^ Yes, I downloaded the songs from a website. The files are .flv.
I opened them in my VLC player and can listen to them, but I cant skip to the middle of the file.
I didnt actually change the format or convert it, I just renamed the file extension to .mp3 and that didnt help... as in I can still listen the the file, but cant skip around.

if you load the file as audio into like audacity (free) or cubase or even fruity loops you can split it up into separate wavs and convert it back to mp3..

^ Yes, I think that what the issue is. I have to properly convert it a mp3 file.
So, what software should I use to do that? Audacity?

Heheheheheh.. It's an addiction.. how I've learned so much so fast though.. <bows humbly>

I believe you can just import the flv file into audacity as audio, and then preview the audio (listen to it play) and then "cut" it how you want.. and save each slice as it's own file by exporting the selected portion as an MP3.

That should be easy..
