I'm in the market for a good set of tires for my 05 sedan. I believe I'm running 215/55-17. My brother suggested Michelin Pilot's MXM4 but I don't think they have those in my size...

I see a lot of recommendations for Kumho Ecsta's... are those any good?

I'll probably get it done at Discount Tire to avoid the hassle, but I hear good things about Tire Rack. If I bought them from Tire Rack where would you suggested I get them installed?

I dont' know about the tires, but National Tire and Battery is affiliated w/ Tire Rack.. So you can take it to any NTB and they'll take care of you. Prolly can get them from them and they'll honor any warranties and specials too if they have them in stock.. When I was shopping for my rims, that's where they told me to go and they'd put them on and balance them for me as part of the purchase.

 

In Car & Drivers recent tire shootout the Kumho Ecsta's was number 1 in dry traction and skidpad performance, and 3rd in braking. It outperformed the benchmark (Michelin PS2's) in all dry performance categories and tied the PS2's in road noise.

 

The ASX or the LX Platinums?

I'm not aware of a MXM4 Pilot, I think those are two different tires.

I have Michelin Pilots and they are great. Really impressive tread life, which was important to me. Stay away from Falken or Sumitomo, I have had poor experiences with those brands.

 

I have always been a huge fan of BF Goodrich.. I have owned several sets and they have all been really good. I have also owned Kumhos (what I am running right now on my car) and IMO the BFG's are much better.

 

the BFGooodrich G-force KDW ranked 5th overall while the Kumho's ranked 3rd.

 

I can't seem to find the Kumho XS's in my size - 215/55-17

What should I do?

 

Diff brand. Try the Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs or the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo.

I donat care what the reviews say.. Ive owned both sets and the BFG's are BY FAR a better tire.

I've enjoyed my Dunlop SportMaxx's, but I think I'm going to switch over to the Invo's

 

If you love your car you won't get invos. Terrible tires, especially in the wet.

What's your purpose with the car? Daily driver, don't care too much about performance? Want the max for your car for grip?

Star Specs are max performance summer. In snow and ice they suck (I had them on the Evo).
