Question Door Lock Actuators (removal/install) **Update**

Anyone here replace their actuators w/ OEM ones? I'm reading the repair manual and it looks like a pain in da @$$. I gave in and just got both of them..tired of living ghetto fabulous w/ no door locks. Let me know if anyone has changed them or a cheap place for labor although I'd rather do this myself.

And yes, I did a search on the forum but didn't really find any pics/vids on this.

I called my bodyshop I deal with and $80 bucks or so to do both doors, so I'm thinking that's a good price??? Anyone else chime in....

I did call Sewell just to see...$583.10 LABOR ONLY...and I asked again LABOR ONLY...DOOR LOCK?!? Yep...I love Sewell but shhht, are they smoking crack...

Thanks,
JD

I did the $5 Door Lock fix, works like a charm. you still have to take your door apart and do some simple fabrications. But you dont have to take the inside part of your door, nor remove the window.

Thanx man, but I was actually looking for DIY vid/pics for someone that's actually replaced them w/ new OEM ones. I didn't want to chance it so I get new OEM replacements.

Im going to look over the FSM to see whats all unvolved. I bet it aint shiet...Ive taken my doors apart penty of times..

Small fee and some brewsky can easily play some influence here..

I only did the $5 trick..

I could not justify spending hundreds of dollars on something that I know will break again.

Well mine lasted for a solid 5+ yrs so it was worth the risk for me...lol plus I've read where some ppl have shorted their ECM or whatever it's called and then it ends up being a more costly repair.

My driver's side was sticking, so I went ahead and got new OEM ones for both driver and passenger side.

I was just searching the forum for a DIY and saw this thread.

JD_AND_DA_G_RIDE - Did you ever figure out how to swap them out?

Thanks.

P.S. I got beers and pizza for anyone who wants to roll up to Flower Mound and help me out. I'm 15min North of DFW airport.

So I decided to get started and see what I could figure out on my own.

I watched the video tutorial on the window motor replacement, as I figured a lot of the disassembling parts would be the same.

I started with my driver's side, and the video shows the passenger side, but they're totally different. In the video, he simply removes all the fasteners and the interior door panel comes right off. I've got all my fasteners removed and the thing isn't budging. There looks to be 3 thin layers of metal within the door (see pic), and as I try to pull on what appears to be the outside "skin", I get absolutely no movement. I was careful in applying the Dynamat not to cover any seams, and I just put it on a week ago, so I'm pretty sure thats not it.

Any advice??

Thanks!

you should have paid some one to do it $80 was a good deal IT IS A BITCH!!!!! TO INSTALL. But any way I can help you since I did my passenger side by myself and about to do the driver side.
take apart the door panel which you did.
remove the metal pan take all the screws off
once the inside of the door is expose remove the glass two screws(you can start to use profane language here)
remove the glass rails (use profane language here)
remove the door handle (tricky use profane language here)
remove the door actuator 3 screws (use profane language here)

reinstall the new actuator and reassemble it helps to have a second person to help you with the glass...

I am not looking forward to doing the driver side but have to soon.

there is also a plastic/rubber grommet that you have to remove to expose a STAR headed bolt.. it is located in the door jam. and it holds the door handle on...
