Aftermarket Y Pipes
Aftermarket Y Pipes
What does everyone think about Aftermarket Y pipes? I think I have a leak in my flex pipe.. Thinking about replacing my OEM.. Maybe w/ a G37 one.. Anyone else have any opinions about the ones out there?
JD, you have a JIC right? Anyone have anything else? I know the HRs are available from the 350Z.

Sounds great!
That's an AWESOME sound man.. That's pure sex homie.. Do you still have either? I was looking at the motordyne and honestly it confused me a little.. You put the straight pipe(test pipe) or cat on BEHIND the Y pipe? Then what does the Y pipe connect to? I like the idea of this, but just didn't quite understand what was going on..
VV, Link me PLEASE... Dude.. I've been reading a LOT (was up till 2am w/ this) and I think that was the culprit to your HFC problem.. Some cars react that way w/ that HISSSS sound.. Especially if they mix aftermarket and OEM parts in the exhaust.
You might have had a hole or leak in your flex pipes as well.. I remember scraping in the parkinglot of Luna De Noche taking the wife out to eat.. I didn't notice anything then because I had the OEM exhaust on.. But now since I open it up more w/ the new exhaust, and the diameter of my pipes are larger (escaping more air) the sound is more noticeable. I still only hear it at really high RPMs when revving.. I don't hear it at all in the cabin when driving, even aggressively. That's why I didn't notice it till watching that vid clip.
You might just have a larger hole than I did to begin with, and throwing on those cats allowed you to hear yours more.. You might be in the market for an aftermarket Y pipe as well and then the cats would work.. I remember you changing the Y pipe thinking that was it but who knows, did that one have a hole in it as well?
I've also read that it's actually normal to hear a hiss sound on the rev down, it's the rev-up that you don't want to hear anything.. I've had a few mechanics tell me that.. each car reacts differently.
I still haven't given up on you and those cats.. do you still have them, or did you sell them already? I know TrixR4Kidz is in the market for some cats if you're trying to seriously offload them.

i loaded them off quite a while ago. if i do get another set, i'm either going crawford or kinetix. however, i am very interested to see how things turn out with the flex since that's where i thought the problem was all along. i have a spare OEM Y in my garage if you want to test it out. didn't work for me, but you never know.
