what is swotr...?

and james.. to help you understand, just go to HowStuffWorks.com and learn how a manual transmission works and how an automatic transmission works. It's pretty simple, but good information to know. And I'm not saying this to be mean, I still use that site for some stuff and refreshers from time to time. Lots of good knowledge there with graphical examples

and I'm not saying the driver of a manual car is better than the driver of an automatic... from a power and driving efficiency stand point a manual transmission is better than an auto. The driver aspect is a completely different story

@ Rob - It's not worth the drivetrain loss imo. Also say your in 5th gear (5at) and your trying to get hard pull from 2nd ... In all circumstances I will be able to shift faster to 2nd and punch it than if i was driving a 5at (even with a shift kit). while in (5at) than you have to tap it 3 times to get into second.. Its artificial shifting. Other cons i could think of could be weight and strength.

@ Cris - seriously its not that hard to get used to driving 6mt. It took me 2 days to sleep on it and a good explanation of how a clutch works (basic car knowledge, as cars all originated with manual transmissions). Seriously I tried a year ago actually and i got a horrible explaination for what i was supposed to do, gave up and bought an auto. Felt guiltly with not being able to accomplish manual and driving a sports car, got fed up and sold my auto for a 6mt. One of the best decisions i have ever made..

A good example which worked for me to describe the general function of a clutch would be a gas powered edger for yard work what not.. Well they have a clutch and or safety you must push down first before you can pull the trigger for the blade to start spinning.. You dont need to push the clutch all the way down for it to engage which allows you to trigger the gas and you can trim your bush.. If you have an edger i would suggest giving it a shot if what im saying above makes sense to anyone but me lol..

Plus you have a daily driver tahoe in an automatic... come on you haz a racecar.
