oh my, this g is awesome. Ipl coupe
Way to ruin my dreams...
A straight shooter, Mason was quick to clear the air, noting that the IPL is not meant to be the equivalent of Mercedes-Benz AMG or BMW M, telling us "Listen, we could have developed a new G Coupe with our 5.0-liter or the 5.6 [V8]. But at what cost? Sure, it would have been a halo performance vehicle, but traditionally those don't sell well." In other words, we all need to remember that the auto business remains a for-profit enterprise.

looks good, but i think they should have just made the jump and put out a BMW M contender. This is like a half step.

To be honest, this is pretty uninspiring. I would have hoped for a huge overhaul to make it a niche model. There is nothing here that really screams "BUY ME!" They gave it a somewhat more agressive kit and tweaked the output slightly. To me, this doesn't justify a different badging. Hell, the Nismo 370 set itself off from the base model way better than this did...
Nismo 370Z ECU sounds more like it. Same redline, and I bet the exhaust is an H design just like the Nismo. I wonder if the exhaust will sound quiet like the Nismo one (a little too quiet for me).
since the tweaks seem to be fairly mild (mostly styling stuff; better exhaust with changes in tune, slightly different suspension), it makes you wonder why they don't just roll out these changes on all production G37s. i understand the desire to appeal to more segments of the market, but i would expect a bigger jump in performance to go along with the additional branding.
It is all about the $$$. Nissan was ready to include an oil cooler for the Nismo 370Z when they found out about the oil overheating issue when being tracked (I do not know how the engineers failed to realize that they were making a street-able track car in the Nismo version) but it was too late to include since the car was already marked up to where Nissan wanted to sell it. So, they did the Apple way of handling mess ups: "don't track it" or buy aftermarket parts to fix it.
