Unfortuantely, when I lived in Wylie, I heard about this in Murphy all the time.... now living in Red Oak, don't experience that kind of issue at all, we have a very diverse neighborhood and it's great! I did get pulled over in Pecan Hill for apparently stopping in front of the white line at a stop sign, in pitch dark environment and I was in our Mini Van very very suspicous LOL but definitely the reason we did not move to Murphy.... doubt talking to the highers will do any good, they will probably just deny it, or say they've experienced alot of "crime" and had to be more cautious....... good luck! I'd move too!

Sorry to hear about this Tony. Really it all boils down to Murphy cops not having anything to do. It is profiling, but I don't think it's ever going to change in Murphy.

So here is the police chief...is it too much for me to say he looks like a good ol country boy from the South that doesn't like anybody that doesn't look like him?

well damn. I live in Murphy and im not white. I got pulled over for speeding (cuz i really was speeding). And the Murphy cop (Officer Smith) pulled me over and actually let me go saying i should drive slower cuz if i get a ticket my insurance would go up especially in a nice car. Felt kinda strange that he would give a rats *** about my insurance. Either way, i thought it was nice he let me go. But then again im not a big buff black dude in a flashy car. Im a fat nerdy asian dude, in a plain looking car... so maybe there is some profiling going on.

Yea that really sucks and is ashame that happened to you bro. Unfortunately there is ALWAYS going to be profiling.. Is it right? Hell no but it will always be there. Sterotypes are always going to exist because honestly people create their stereotypes. Otherwise there wouldn't be a stereotype lol. I mean think about how many times you have been called "the white black guy" That in itself is profiling.

Murphy is a good ole' boy town. Very southern there even though it is getting more populated and more and more up to date.

sorry to hear this Tony......sad to say it but hell whenever we went the other night to get the yogurt for your wife you and I both were on pins and needles driving around...How many cops did we see in less than 4 miles from your house.....4.....I have yet to be pulled over by Murphy Cops yet but you and I are followed all the time.

There was even the time you and I went to go and grab grub from taco bell...that murphy copped popped a U-Turn sped up to try and make the light..ended up getting stopped and then popped another U-turn after we went through to see what we were doing at Taco Bell. Even drives through the shopping center parking lot.

I PERSONALLY can state that whenever my ex-wife and I were looking at houses over in Murphy/Wylie area we actually stopped one day behind a wylie cop who was parked in a new Housing Sub-division.."using the wifi and on the internet" walk up to his window and of course I startled him....he slams his laptop shut really quick...Guess what he was watching..."****"! he speaks really quickly and says he has to run and jets off.

Unfortunately Murphy has been like this for years and years. Most everyone in the area knows about it and just does their best to avoid going through there. I know that doesn't do someone just moving into the area any good especially if you have already bought a house in the town. While it may seem like they pick on certain types of people more than others, from what I have heard, they plain just don't like anyone.

Some of the towns in the area, like Frisco where I live, have a Citizens On Patrol program. If Murphy has one, I would suggest signing up for it and using is as a way to get to know the officers better. Once they see your face at events like that and get to know you, most of them will change their attitude. Frisco's cops had a similar reputation and getting involved in city functions seemed to help a lot after I moved up here from Dallas.

Also, if you have one of the police officers kids on one of your teams you will get a chance to talk to them in a different setting and can get the word out to the force that you are one of the good guys.

Good luck

Unfortunately, I live in Wylie (which is separated from Murphy by literally a street).. So I can't go ANYWHERE w/out going through Murphy and in their jurisdiction..

All I can say is WOW! I really feel for you. I was picking up my wife from class one night at UTA because it was night time and that school is not safe at night or during the day for that matter. I'm pulling in to wait for her and I get pulled over. I was thinking to myself was I speeding? No. Well they wait in their car and point the search light in my side mirror so I'm pretty much blind. This goes on for about 3-5 mins. I start to get out of the car because I've had enough and the cops get out and yell at me to stay inside the car. About 2 mins later another cop car shows up and I'm thinking I have been dragging a student around from the back of my car or something! The other cop pulls up behind me as well and shines his light in my rearview mirror! I'm freaking out! They all get out and tell me to get out of the car and I do and they tell me to walk backwards and sit on the curb away from my car. So I do. They then ask me what I'm doing there. I explain that I'm waiting on my wife to get out of class. He says sure in a smart azz way and asks for my license and if he could look in my car. I give him my license and say sure. I ask what I did about 5 times during this and he says nothing. The whole time I'm sitting there the other three officers are mean muggin me. I look over and I see my wife walking up and the officers yell at her to stay back and she tells them that I'm her husband and that I'm here to pick her up. They yell at her some more because she isn't staying back and make her sit on the curb like 100 feet away from me. They search my car and find nothing of course. They tell me I can get up and go and tell me that I matched the description of a guy who had just raped someone on campus!!!! I asked what the guy looked like and he said white, with a beard. Ahahaha!!! I laughed at them in a pissed off way and said good job guys you caught me! Meanwhile, it seemed like the whole campus was watching this happen. I was pissed more than embarrassed, thinking now everyone will think I'm some rapist. The other two cops were still questioning my wife. What were they asking her? Ma'am are you sure that's your husband? LOL. They left and I took my wife home. No sorry or anything. A few days later I see a police sketch of the guy and it looks nothing like me. Just a typical white guy face and a beard. I had some pretty serious stubble going on but I wouldn't call it a beard. Anyway, sorry for everything that has happened to you man. Really.
