I was using dragtimes.com for DA calculation...

Famoso is relatively low altitude - and I expected the conditions to be much better - considering it is surrounded by orange groves... as it turns out, that track was as bad as Fontana... it's in the middle of dirt fields really - went there with three other ppl and no one (including cars that I didnt know) was running decent that night... only got two runs (break downs and clean-up all night) and both were 13.9 (on street tires)... not much better than Fontana. The only positive is that I've never lost to another NA VQ at any of the 1/4 mile tracks I've ran - and I havent heard of any with lower ETs (I'm more into same track comparisons)... this isnt to say that there arent others faster - but comparing to other tracks is pointless.

Bakersfiled was a huge waste of a drive... it was cool hanging out with friends, but two runs and sh!tty track conditions made it a complete waste (not at all the conditions I was expecting)... Sac is known to be a good/fast track, but it's just not worth it to drive 7-8 hours just to drag race...

My opinion of dynos is same day same dyno comparison (or its pointless)... my opinion of drag racing is the same track, same day or its pointless.

Here's my take, it's not all about DA's. The reality is there are some tracks in this nation that are faster/slower than others for no real apparent reason. Sure, many of the fast tracks tend to be in areas that experience great atmospheric conditions, but there's something else there in the equation. I have personnally seen HUGE differences in ET/MPH between tracks with the same cars, no changes in mods, and under similiar DA conditions. With my Maxima, I'd run 14.3-14.4@98-99mph at my local Kansas City strip, but there were occasions where I'd go run at a strip 2 hours south. I've been to that strip 3 times and everytime I was running 14.6-14.7@95mph. Same DA conditions (within 600'), elevation, 60 foots, etc. It was frustrating. All my friends were all .3-.4 and 3 to 4mph slower too. Years ago when I had my Z28, it went 13.7s@102mph in Kansas City in 50 degree near sea level air. I ran the car at Houston Raceway Park, a well known fast track, and the car was going 13.4-13.5s@104mph in 1,800' air with no changes to the car. I was thrilled.

Most importantly, before they resurfaced my Kansas City track in 2001, the left lane was almost always .2 and 2mph faster. I could hot lap and I was always slower in the right lane. Most every racer knew about this and avoided the right lane during points/money events. When they redid the track, the timing equipment was updated and timing between the lanes became indifferent. I think that offers some explanation as to why some tracks may be faster/slower than others. Not all timing equipment is perfect.

IMO, these databases are useful only when trying to gauge a general idea of how your car should perform in decent DAs. Throw out the numbers for cars that a wildly exceeding the norm. Years ago there was 03.5 6MT sedan that was running 13.8s@102mph bonestock. Turns out the conditions were sub sea level DA and at a well known fast track. Same goes for bonestock VQ35DE Zs going 13.6s. It's far from the norm. Bolt-on VQ35DE Zs trapping 106-108mph? Take a gander at how almost all of them run at Capital, E-town, Maryland, etc. I can tell you those cars aren't going 13.0-13.3s@106-108mph in Kansas City, even under stellar air conditions. Those cars are going 13.5s@104mph or slower. I know this because there is a handful on them here in KC and Wichita.

Sean Farrah ran his 12.87 at the ultra crappy San Antonio Raceway.......also trapping close to 108.....with a bolt-on DE.

I would agree that the times toward the front of the bolt-on and/or stock lists aren't the norm though.......that's why they are at the top .

Also, I don't think anyone will debate the impact DA makes........

I won't debate the effect of DA.

I know for a fact my car in socal is a low 14 high 13 sec car because I've ran the same car in Socal with almost the same mods and power levels. I'm a little over 1 sec faster here on the east coast.

Mike are you coming out Nov 20th and DaveB have you been to track this yr to try out your wheels?

My goal is to get out to the strip next weekend. As long as temps stay above 40 degrees and the day is relatively sunny, the strip will be open every weekend until the end of November. I hope to find that high pressure, dry, cool 42 degree day where the DA is sub sea level. It happens once in a bluemoon here in Kansas City. My last time out was November 2, 2008 and it was the hottest day on record. It was 78 and humid. DA in the 2,800' range. I choose to run with my new 18s and was slow! 14.7@97mph. I was dissappointed until I got home and saw how bad the DA was. This time I'll be on my OEM 17s and will try out the lightweight and short 23.5" BFG DRs. The only changes to the car since Nov 2008 is the 3.54 gear swap. I'd love to see a 14.1@100mph, anything that beats my previous 14.3@99mph will be fine.

Went to Cecil County in MD on Friday.

Ran a PB of 14.006@100.39. Other similar runs were 14.085@100.69, and 14.017@100.11. The 14.017@100.11 run was the last of the night, and would've been a 13, but I smacked the limiter going into 4th. It was incredibly disappointing, but I still trapped over 100. Had that not happened, I would've ran a 13.9x@close to 101, if not 101.

I was only launching at 1500-1800 the whole night. The last run I launched at around 2k, and my 1/8th trap was the highest of the night. Everything was going great until I messed up, but at least I know that smacking the limiter is unavoidable with my tires, and that shifting into 4th at the last moment is quicker/faster.

Power mods on the car are:

2003 G35 Sedan 5AT
-Motordyne 1/2"
-Borla TD with an X-pipe
-Smoothed lower plenum
-Revup airbox

I've only added the ported lower plenum since my last time at the track, and I also tried shifting into 4th later. I previously went a 14.15, but in retrospect was shifting into 4th early.

I met Dsskyline, cool guy, he was running 13.5-13.6@105.xx, very quick car. I have a bunch of videos and pics of the slips. I'll post them up in the next few days. I'm a little busy right now.

Here is the breakdown of the 14.006 slip:

60' = 2.15
330' = 5.973
1/8mi = 9.094@78.89
1000 = 11.763
1/4mi = 14.006@100.39

Here is the video of the 14.006 run:
