Any advantage towards pre-race burnout
Obviously, pre-drag burnouts do great things for cars running drag radials.
But I've heard that doing a burnout while running stock tires doesn't do much at all, just burns valuable tire tread because street tires are designed to perform at fairly cold temperatures vs. racing tires.
Does anybody have a more detailed view about whether or not a pre-drag burnout on street tires will do anything good or bad?

Like you said, its a waste on tires. They aren't made of the same compound as drag radials/ slicks. They do not need to be warmed up to be sticky like DR's/slicks.
My recommendation is drive around the waterbox and do a quick tire-spin to remove any water/dirt off of your street tires. Not necessarily a burn-out... just rev it, dump the clutch, and let the tires spin for a second to clean them up.

doing a burnout in the waterbox on street tires doesnt really do much but **** off the people behind you. When you do a burnout in the water on regular street radials it displaces the water up into the treads which in turn leaves a trail of water as you drive up to the line.
Like skaterbasist said just drive around the waterbox and do a quick dry tire spin if you want to free off any dirt on the tires.
