6spd launch and shift points...

at what rpm do you guys launch at in a 6 speed...coupe to be specific? Also, where do you shift at? I've been launching at 2000rpm and been shifting around 5500 to 6000rpm. I have a short ram intake and tein stech springs. that's it. Fastest time I could pull was a 14.685. 60ft was 2.262.

I think camber might be an issue as I never got it aligned after I dropped the G. What else could help me get faster times. Dropping spare tire, jack, and sub might help also.

Do you have stock tires? I believe camber does make a difference cause you're putting more rubber on the ground. My best 60 ft has been 2.1 and I'll usually launch around 1500rpm but I don't shift till just about redline. Many will disagree with me about the shift point but I ran a 13.9 shifting at about 6900rpm.

My mods are test pipes and nismo exhaust for now. I have 19's and wider tires on the rear though. I noticed my 60ft times were better with half a tank of gas rather than a 1/4 tank as well.

Ideally, you would want to launch off the rev limiter Actually, it depends on how the track is prepped and what tires you have. With street tires I would try around 2000 rpms and work from there. A technique that will help acheive better 60' times is to slip the clutch. Now granted this will wear out your clutch sooner, but a few times at the track shouldn't be a problem. As for shifting what works for me is 6300-6400 rpms on the tach for all gears. To get the best times for your car will take lots of practice, good surface prep and cool weather. Oh, and anytime you can reduce the vehicle weight consider it free horsepower!

Good Luck!

Without DRs or euivalent you don't want to launch at the rev limter , way too much wheelspin. With street rubber the most effective launch RPM is somewhere between 2k and 4krpm. This is a pretty TQy V6 not an inline 4 or Rotary

What elevation are you running at? If you are in Denver, this might be as good as you are going to run.

yeah, I have stock pilot sports. I'm in Hawaii so dunno about the elevation and what not. What do you mean by the "slipping the clutch"?

I'm sure someone else will be able to give a better description...but I'll try.

When "slipping the clutch", you don't just do the usual launch...which is letting out the clutch once you feel it engage while accelrating. Slipping the clutch is using more of the clutch than usual. You know what, don't listen to my description. I'm not good at giving them at all.

Lets say you hold your rpms at 4000 rpms and drop the clutch, your tires will go up in smoke if your not using slicks. On a set of street tires that usually happens around 2000-2500 rpms. On a stick car its difficult to transfer the power to the rear easily. I've seen plenty of manual cars brake down at the track because they "shock" the rear end. Automatic cars do this much smoother and provide more consistent times. By slipping the clutch what you are trying to do is to get the car rolling a few feet before you fully disengage the clutch. What this does is take up slack in the drivetrain and allows you to go WOT sooner.
Another example that you might understand better is when your stopped on a hill with a stick car. It will take more rpms and "slipping" the clutch to get you moving.
I hope I descibed it well. It takes some practice, but remember it will wear out your clutch sooner.

You never shift lower than you are supposed to even if the powerban is the highest at that certain RPM. When lauching I usually go in between the RPM's. For example, our redline is 6900RPM, I launch at 3500 and when dropping the clutch, I feather it until I can feel it grabbing. Once it grabs, I push it WOT. Its kind of tough but you will get used to it. I used to own a 2001 celica Turbo and did 1.9 60' foots all day. With my MKIV, I used to run 2.0 on street tires. It takes practice. I haven't ran my G yet since its only 3 weeks old but getting ready to. I love the handling. Hope that helps.

Tires have a big affect on launch as well as suspension. I would try and get adjustable dampening to stiffen the rear as much as you can. Its all power to weight transfer.

Thank you!!.....shift at 6800k does yield the best acceleration...what most don't realize is that when you shift at that speed you are dropped right in the sweet spot....shift at less than 6500 rpms....you will be just plain slow.
