Were you using your same launch style as last time?
I have mixed feelings about track prep. Here's a quick rundown of my runs:
14.431@100.01/2.436 (left lane)
14.360@100.07/2.394 (left lane)
14.650@95.75/2.342 (right lane, with passenger - noticed my trap dropped almost 5mph?)
18.545@54.16/2.589 (left lane, with passenger filming, missed TWO shifts )
14.220@99.90/2.329 (left lane)
13.896@101.31/2.157 (right lane)
14.329@96.73/2.194 (right lane - had another passenger almost 300lbs )
14.196@99.51/2.291 (right lane - same 300lb dude )

As you can see, the night started out pretty crappy, in both lanes. There were *tops* only about 20 cars running that night, and only one of the big boys. There was *no* prep. The track guys stayed in a truck with the heater on, and only came out to spray the water box for the big guy. That's it. No sweeping, no torching, nothing.

In fact, on my first 13 second run, when I shifted from 1st to 2nd the rear-end came out at least 45 degrees, and I had to completely lift of the throttle and feed in a little steering to correct. I thought I had blown that run, until I got the slip.

Also, when we first got there, a guy I had met the previous week came over to the car and said his whole group was going home because they couldn't hook up. I honestly have to say that I don't think my 60's were due to any track prep.

And yes, I did change my launch style later in the night a bit, but you don't want to know what I did .

In all honesty, I think staying in 2nd and 3rd longer played almost as much a role as the newfound launching consistency.

The revup redlines at 7k, not 6600. Also, I had observed in the past, with the aid of a dyno, that the tach was not accurate. So when I shifted at an *indicated* 7300, the engine was a couple hundred lower than that.

I'm looking into clutches now.
Dude... I'm so sorry to hear that. What happened? How many times have you been down the strip? How do you drive the car on a daily basis? How many miles do you have?

I've got just under 13k now, with almost 100 runs down the strip. Maybe I've just been lucky.

Good luck with the clutch my friend. A buddy in an 04 6MT coupe just got the JTW clutch/flywheel combo, and he loves it. I haven't driven it yet to give any personal opinions, but he swears by it. But it also seems to be the general concensus that the lightweight flywheel will actually hurt your track times... Don't know; don't have any experience with that kind of stuff.

Oh, and congrats on the Z. Wonderful car. I hate to lose a sedan owner to something with only 2 doors , but I might consider the same thing if my circumstances were different. Keep us posted on how you do.

Having driven both a good amount, what would you say are the pros and cons of each?

Good times man. Wait till I get to the track here. I was the only one to pull a 14.83 out of a bone stock 2001 Maxima SE 5spd at the time. Only one other person beat me.

So I hope to pull the best time out of this car. What was your launch technique?

Last week, my personal best was a 14.09@101. This week it was a 13.791@102.22. What variables changed?

First, the conditions. Last week it was mid thirties, and roughly 65% humdity. This week it was mid to high twenties, though the humidity was greater than 90%. You have to realize that friday night T&T's are from 9:00 PM till 1:00 AM, and we didn't get started until about 11:30 last night. Being so late, temps really start to approach the dew point, hence the much higher humidity.

Last week I did no prep. I did run at ~31psi in the rears, but had a full tank of gas and everything still in the trunk. Also, I because of the knock I described last week, I think I might have gotten a bad tank of gas. This week, I had a 1/4 tank from a different station, and *nothing* in the trunk. Tires were unchanged.

Those are the changes. A temp of difference of 8-10 degrees, with higher humidity did positively affect my times, but those effects are a very small portion of the 3 tenths and 1mph that I gained.

Last week, I had two 2.1's. This week I had plenty more. Also, last week I hit that 14.09 just once. This week I hit that 13.79 just once, but I did hit something like 5 13.8's.

Also, I would have figured that the colder temps would have been more of a tradeoff than anything else. Sure, it might have helped my runs, but hurt my launches. I'm still on street tires. Last night, I got 2.1 after 2.1 after 2.1. I was just *on* last night. Also, remember that those atmo correction factors are for ET's and traps; there is no way they can take into account how conditions affect launches.

The bottom line is I had a killer night. On the other hand, if I ran again in the summer, with alabama heat and humidity, I doubt I could even break into the 13's again.

Now, I have to ask a general question; I just hope it doesn't come across as arrogant. Other than IMSSOLUTIONS, and zximan, what other g drivers on this board have run 13.7's or better, NA, on street tires? Also, I saw someone that ran a 2.09 sixty foot with the MREV on street tires. Other than that guy(can't remember the name), who else has run a flat 2.100, RWD, on street tires?

Right now the car is strong. And right now I'm driving it extremely well. On the other hand, I absolutely suck as a drag racer. Last night my mission was to run as well as I could, so I ignored the tree. As a result, I had several runs with reaction times measured at 2, 3, or even FOUR seconds. Pitiful.

You obviously haven't studied the REV up engines for 05+ 6mts. They redline at 7300~.

Before I go into the specifics on my launch technique, let me add a disclaimer that dropping the clutch is understood to be a bad thing. Period. So if/when I break something, I will admit that I was forwarned. That goes for anyone else. If someone uses my launch technique and breaks something, you've been warned.

I try to shallow stage. When the second staging light comes on, I let out the clutch 90% +, just before it grabs. On my stock clutch, this is probably 80% at the top of the arc. At the beginning of the night, I tried feathering the clutch while modulating the throttle. But on one particular run, I had a brainfart, dropped the clutch, spun like I usually do, came off the throttle and reapplied. When I got the timeslip it showed my first 2.1.

So, the rest of the night I just said screw it, and spun like mad. I launched at 3k to 3200 rpms. When I dropped the clutch, it literally only had to move less than an inch to grab. Now, I didn't just jump into the throttle. I applied maybe a third throttle for a split second to get moving, then slammed the accelerator. After each run, I quickly same to the conclusion that staying in the throttle, on this particular night, at this particular track, under these particular conditions, yielded the best launches. On the few runs where I spun but did *not* get any wheelhop, I had 2.3's and 2.4's. Go figure.

In summary, thrashing the drivetrain is bad. Dumping the clutch is bad. Wheelhop is bad. But 2.1's, all night long, are definitely good

Now everyone can tell me that I'm gonna break something.

I'm not going to tell you that you will break something but I am going to remind you of the *talk* we will have if you do.
