My 1/8 Mile Times with Slips

I drove up to the local 1/8 mile strip this weekend to see what I could pull in my Sedan. I did not bother changing my 19" wheels to the stock 17" wheels. Now I wish I had.

Best Run:
Reaction: .487
60 Ft. 2.190
1/8 Mile 9.369
Trap Speed 75.038

Average Runs (about 4 of these):
Reaction: .196
60 Ft. 2.303
1/8 Mile 9.478
Trap Speed 75.434

Worst run:
Reaction: .038
60 Ft. 2.335
1/8 Mile 9.663
Trap Speed 77.825

I know that the times are not that good. Like I said this is the frst time at the track with this car. Do you think a 9.0-9.2 @ 80-83 is possable with my stock 17" wheels and no spare or jack? What do I need to do to improve? I was launching at about 3K, slipping the clutch. Weather was in the low 60's, about 25% humidity, and track is at about 800 Ft. elevation.

Reducing weight is always a good idea, and it will help, but the effects will be marginal. I would have thought you'd see a higher trap with your mods, but I didn't notice the 19's. However, I don't think pulling the crap out of the trunk and dropping to 17's is going to give you 8mph in the 1/8th(75 to 83).

However, with the 17's, and more seat time in the car, 78-80mph traps are attainable.

Good times for a first time at the track.

Did I call it or what As taken from your orginial thread.

First time out in a new car with a manual? I'd say 9.2-9.4 @76-77mph with a 2.2 60'.
Anyways, you'll improve. Don't worry about it too much. Yes, the 19s are probably slowing you down a solid .1 seconds in the 1/8 mile and probably around .15 in the 1/4 mile give or take a few hundreths.

Like Trey said, adding the 17s aren't going to increase your trap in the 1/8 mile by 6-7mph. The guy that posted in your original thread stating 9.0-9.2@80-83mph are normal for a G35 is sorely mistaken. 305whp F-bodies pull 83mph in the 1/8 mile. Not G35s or 350Zs. Also a 9.2@83mph means the car either has one narrow powerband or the car is spinning it's tires horribly in the first 100'. An LS1 F-Body would have to pull a 2.5 60' to a 9.2@83mph in the 1/8.

It's pretty safe to assume that if you're getting 76-77mph in the 1/8 mile, the car will see 97-98mph in the 1/4 mile. If you're running 9.3s in the 1/8 then you'll by running 14.4-14.5 in the 1/4 mile.

DaveB You Hit It On The Head

I think that I can get a better launch with a little more practice. If I would act like I was the only one staged and forget about who is in the other lane I think that I would do better. I don't think track prep was that good the run were I got the 9.369 I was going up wth a 03 or 04 cobra he ran a 8.074 and he had mods (SC Pully upgrade) and exhaust a some other things. We were both spinning like hell. Even 4 bangers and all the other cars there were talking about how bad the track was. Enough of the excuses. I did get a few kills on a couple of Fox body stangs and a 99 stang and a 02 stang. Not to mention the civics and intergras. Had a good time. I will be going back agin soon. I will keep everyone posted.

Forget about the car next to you. Take my word for it man, if you're out there just to see what *you* can do in *your* car, forget about racing. That's why it's called a test and tune. Just concentrate on your rpms, clutch placement, etc, and worry about the launch. Don't worry if the guy next to you flies by, or not.

I've taken my g down the 1/8 or 1/4 almost 100 times now(and plan again tomorrow weather permitting), and I'm still learning my launch(slow learner). I think I'm a decent driver, but a horrible racer. Like I said, just worry about yourself.

Also, how many runs did you get? I don't know if anyone else is this way, but I don't get into my groove until at least my 5th or 6th run. No differences in my driving style, as far as I can tell, but my later runs are always faster with a better trap.

Trey I will def. be thinking about my launch and staging next time. Forget the guy next to me like you said. I know I can get this car to run 8.9-9.0. I ran about eight races or so. I feel the same way you do on the 5-6 runs to get in the groove. This was the first time with this car. Launching this is harder than the mustang I had. I will get it down.

wreckeds2k I will give you a pm next time I go up to Shadyside. I think next time my buddy with a 03 350Z with Borla exhaust, 5/8" MD ISO spacer, Kinetix highflow cats, and popcharger will be going. I have out ran him on the street once (before he found his right launching point). Know he pulls each time we run. Are you going to ZDAYZ? We will be up there. One 350Z, one black 04 coupe, and my 04 sedan. Hope to meet up and see you.

He was off, but don't discount him too much. His stock 03 sedan 6MT ran in the 13's at 101. That's the fastest stock sedan I've seen so far. But just because one can drive, don't make one an expert I guess.

I hear you. I just think getting over 80mph in the 1/8 with a lightly modded G35 6MT is pushing it a little unless the track is really "fast". As we all know, some tracks are just faster than others. I've experienced this on many occassions.

Trap speed is something that's really hard to mess up, even with a 6MT. Assuming your consistent with your shifting, your MPH should be withing 1mph. Even if you're 60 foots are all over the place, MPHs shouldn't change much assuming your shift speed and rpm are the same. Seeing that his best MPH was 78mph, I'd think 77-78mph is about as good as he's going to see unless he was shifting way early or boucing off the limiter. I do find it odd that he was consistently averaging 75mph and then all of a sudden he pulls a 77.8mph. That's a huge difference, especially considering it's the 1/8 mile.

Once he can get into the lower 2.1 60 foots, improve his shifting skills, and add the 17s, he should be able to see 9.1-9.2s in good weather. He should try to shallow stage too.

You have misinterpeted my statement and also misquoted.

Shoot for 8.9-9.2 at about 89-91 mph would be great.
I see the mph is off by 10 as there is no way a basically stock car can achieve that kind of trap speed. What I meant to say was 79-81 mph! I would've thought that with your drag racing experience you would of caught that. Also, SouthernG35's car is not stock which I took into consideration. My personal best 1/8 speed was 79.43 mph stock! With a few boltons I'm sure I could hit 81-82 mph. Just wanted to clear up any doubts anyone might have.

Thanks, I never claimed to be an expert.

Sorry man. After I posted that, I realized that it didn't come across quite right, though I must admit I can't think of a good way of saying it.

YOu would need quite a few bolt ons to add 3-4mph. At least 30whp worth of bolt ons to be exact. To get 30whp on NA bolt ons is way too much cheddar. My personal best MPH is 78mph 1/8 and 98mph in the 1/4 and that was only 1 pass, with pop charger mod only. There was a 350z there the same day I was with Plenum, pulleys, intake and he was running 100mph in the quarter which is only around 80mph in the 1/8. I'm sure he could drop another 2k to run 2 more mph, but why. If you spend 3-4K in NA mods, just buy FI.
