Rogue Engineering Short Shifter Install

So I finally decided to put my Rogue Engineering Short Shifter in and thought it was going to be a pain in the @ss. After lifting the car and throwing some jack stands underneath. I was done in ten minutes. Just to think that the shop would have charged me 125.00 to do such a "tedious task" But for those of you that want to do something simple, I think this would be the DIY mod. One 12mm bolt that holds the shif linkage in, unscrew the shift **** (the factory one acted like it did not want to leave...lol), lift the cotton, rmove the rubber boot, 4 10mm screws and in she goes. I love the close change that allows me to run through gears with no play at all.

Yeah that is an easy mod. $125 is rape.

RE gives very good instructions with it.

How'd you remove the rubber boot so easily? I had to take it to a shop and get it pressed off. Nothing I tried would work.

I haven't been following the RE Shifter story, but are they still carrying the G35 application?

Ordered mine awhile back. Last I knew, orders start shipping in early December.

Thanks for the heads up on easy installation and new shifter feel Hi-Tech_G.

Can't wait until I get mine.

The boot underneath is like a slip and slide type. I've got skinny fingers so I didn't have a problem getting it off. The boots that are on the acutal shifter (inside the car) are actually two pieces, a top layer and one on the inside. i pulled them off one by one.

You'll enjoy it. i notice an instant change in the shifting. There is like no gap points between shifting at all. I settled for last years model even though the new one looks tempting.

I had one of the first Rogue Engineering Short Shifters when they first came out a year or two ago. The first one I had was maybe their prototype. It came apart in the middle after a month or so due to twisting the Shifter **** on tight. I called R.E Engineering and they were very apologetic. They NEXT DAY'd their new improved Short Shifter with a bolt though the middle two halfs along with the original epoxy to hold it all together. Now that's Customer Service. No problems since!

The only problem I had on install was getting the lower(under car)rubber boot back on. Finally...I had my Wife hold the shifter down from inside the car, then I was able to press the lower boot on...

Pic 1 & 2: the original R.E.SS after it separated.
Pic 3: Top shifter is second improved R.E.shifter they sent me(notice bolt through the middle), Bottom shifter is the stock one...

I'd say the hardest part about this install was removing the shift ****. It took me like 7 minutes worth of twisting to ge tit off.

if the RE short throw can be installed from the top (inside the car) why did you have to jack the car to get access in the bottom

Some people are able to do it from the top. You have to go under the car to rmove the 12mm bolt that bolts the shifter to the linkage. Either way you still have to go under the car because if your hands may not be small enought to reach the bolt from the inside of the car.
