My question was kind of a bait. I'm figuring that if cruise is lost that means the vehicle speed sensor will be out of whack which would also cause the speedometer to be off.
Cruise control is based off combined readings of the wheel speed sensors and transmission revolution sensor. There's an allowable variance for the engine rpm in any gear at a given speed, the shorter gearing pushes it outside of that variance so your cruise control will not work.
Console gauges such as speedo and odometer are based solely off the rear wheel speed sensors.
