How many of you who are not mechanics have installed a clutch/flywheel on your own? How hard is the process ? could it be harder that installing a turbo kit? I am planning to do it this weekend BECAUSE JIM WOLF SUCKS ***!!!
A spring came off or something and my clutch WILL NOT DISENGAGE!

i have a local auto hobby shop on base with a lift and all the tools... so wish me luck!

It's pretty easy but very time consuming if you don't have the correct tools. In order to even get to them, you're going to have to drop the tranny.

 

time consuming huh?... it took me about 4 1/2 days to install a turbo kit on a RX8...(first time) it shouldnt be that long right?

 

ok, maybe not that much time. But with the correct tools, i'm assuming it'll take about 2-3 hours if you take your time?

 

Nah, most mechanics can do it in 3hrs so figure maybe a full day tops. Just be sure to make note of where everything is before removing. A digital camera may help so you can snap pics and refer to them later on.

Get a new throw out bearing and pilot bushing while you're at it. Very cheap! Probably going to need some tranny fluid too.

 

Could be done in 2 hours with right tool

 

have you tried to blead you system yet?
You might have poped the spring off the release fork, clips on the back of the fork and then snaps on the pivot ball.
As for replacing the clutch, it's not really hard just takes time. Make sure you use the alignment key, spay some white lithum grease on hte throw out bearing. Also why are you going with a 6puck? do you have major mods? That going to be kinda harsh on a stock setup. Make sure you bleed the slave good after your done and you might end up needing some tranny fluid incase some comes out when you take out the DS.

my jwt clutch it think was installed wrong because it began to slip.. eventually, it wouldn't disengage.. So i think one of the springs came off the clutch plate; or my clutch disc IS SO BADLY DAMAGED FROM DRIVING CCCRRAAZZZY..

anyways... i've always had a bad synchro for 5th gear, so i bought another tranny since my turbo voided my warranty. ... i get the clutch monday, so wish me luck everyone.. i will take pics for you all too... !

I swapped my tranny out in 5 hours. You just need to take the y-pipe off (assuming you still have one) and down pipes. After that, loosen the 4 nuts on the drive shaft, take the 4 14mm bolts out from the tranny support. Then take a 17mm wrench and tackle the tranny bolts, remove the starter bolts as well, unscrew the slave cylinder and pull straight out.

Its pretty straight forward.
