Those familiar w/ 5th gear grind. I need your help!!!

So I have that infamous 5th gear grind. I know it is a synchro problem, but I have a salvage title, and hence, no warranty. I need those of you who know whats up to help me. What should I do?
-The mechanic that I went to said he could swap out my tranny for a rebuilt one and would give me a 12 month/12,000 mi warranty ($1650). Or he said I could buy a new up-to-date tranny from Infinity for $2200 and have him install it for another $400. Is it true the warranty on Infinity's tranny is also a 12 month/12 k warranty?
-Should I just do a drain and fill and hope for the best?
-Or just keep driving it till it goes really bad?
-Or wait for a recall?
-Or directly b!tch and moan to Infinity to see what they can do?

Any replies would be appreciated. Thx.

How would Infiniti know you have a salvage title? If you're under the time/miles limit of the warranty, I'd be trying to get it serviced under that....

I was thinking the same thing. The title stastus is held by the state, I dont think Infiniti would have any clue about it. Could be wrong but I'd see if they will replace it. If you already mentioned it to the dealer (being salvage), try a different dealer.

My bad, Infiniti. I never realized that. But with a salvage title, it wipes out any factory warranty. I already talked with them. I also don't have any warranty paperwork. Do you guys have paperwork, or do you just bring it in. Mileage = 37 k

Just bring it in! It's still under the umbrella factory warranty. You'll probably be best bringing the vehicle to another shop, since one already knows you've had a crash. But there's no paperwork you need to prove that your car has a warranty.

So I brought it in to another dealership and when they looked it up, they immediately found out that it had a salvage title. He then quoted me $2100 for the tranny and $670 for labor. What a rip off!!! They tried to play the whole discount game by saying that the tranny costing $2400 and then immediately have someone come in and chop off $300. I was in sales and so I know how it works. It p!ssed me off.

So again guys, what should I do?
