G35C6MT vs R32x2 vs STI
what a great day for driving in NYC last weekend! Saturday, after my car was all washed up and ready to pimp, I was on woodhaven blvd. in queens heading for the L.I.E. when 2 identical blue R32's came flying up on my rear. since it was trafficky and i have a phobia against speeding on local roads, i kept my cool. at a stop light, they guys in their R32's were looking over at me and my girl and started revving their engines. They took off at the light, but for no damn reason because there was so much traffic, lol! ok, so they showed me first gear. anyways, i was patient and waited to see if they'd follow me onto the highway. I just finish telling my girl how the R32s are supposed to be VW's answer to the evo/sti, as i jump onto the highway, she says "kool, they're following us on!"...ok, so i got a lil nervous because i've never really pushed my car too much (btw, i'm no longer on snow tires, i have the stock 18's back on) and i've been feening to push the car (the stockers make the car feel like a totally new car), plus i have no clue as to wat these VW's can do...so i merge onto the highway and play it cool, letting the R32's make the first move, then *BOOM! i see the R32's downshift and start pulling up to me. i downshifted into 2nd and by the time the caught my front bumper, i was up to speed, so it was an even race. i let off a little so i could pace him thru traffic, and i got behind him. the other R32 must have gotten caught in traffic or let off, so it was me and the other R32. anyways, he's still on it, and i get back on it after i go behind him. i was in 4th and pulling on him hard. i thought maybe he wasnt pushing it, but i heard his exhaust screaming. i was gonna go around him instead i pulled right up to his rear bumper (there was too much traffic for weaving around him). our lane was clear in front of us btw. finally other lanes opened up and i flew right by him in 4th gear. my conclusion: R32 are slow as hell, i didn't expect the G to pull so hard on it, i was really amazed at this...it took the other one a while to catch up, but he finally flew by us after we both let off. at one point we were all stuck in traffic next to each other, and they were'nt looking over anymore, probably cos me and my girl were laughin our asses off at them...later on that night, on my way home, i'm on the Van Wyck heading for whitestone bridge when i see the familiar HID's of the STi closing in hard, he must have been going 90-100 mph...so i tap the brakes and downshifted to let him know wat the deal is...he pulled up right next to me and got back on it b4 i was ready, so initially he jumped maybe 2-3 cars...ok, not exactly fair but i tracked him down anyways, following him thru cars and gaining on him by the second...the way my car pulled up top was pretty good, and again, by 4th gear i was pulling on him and eased by him and by the top of 5th, he let off. i waited for him and we gave it another run. this time, i was in the left lane, and he pulled up behind me. i thought he wanted to run side by side, so i moved to the middle lane, but he followed me into the middle lane, right on my ***. so now we're on the bridge. i decided it was time to see wats really good, and downshifted to 3rd again and got on it...he was on my bumper til mid 4th, then i at first started to slowly creep away, but by mid 5th i was pulling away. i thought he let off, so i let off, and cruised at that speed (i'll leave it undisclosed), and a few moments later he blazed by me, so i guess he was still on it. the nerve of this guy to flash his blinkers as he passed me like he won the race! but anyways, we hit the toll booth and he didn't wait for me (he had ez pass and i didnt)...he just kept going. my conclusion: STi is slow up top. i'm not flaming the STi, i love that car, i was going to buy one b4 i bought this car, and i know that with a simple downpipe its a monster up top cos my frend has one, but this was a stock one (i'm assuming) and wasn't very impressive on the highway...

Re: G35C6MT vs R32x2 vs STI
Very nice. The STi is extremely quick off the line, but it lacks in high speed acceleration. As far as the R32 they are slow at stock. But you can get an HPA stage 1 2 or 3 turbos that absolutely FLY. Stage 2 specs are 0-60 3.8 1/4 12.0. you can check it out in the copy of motortrend a few months ago, i think, i cant remember exactly which magazine it is. But i'll look for it and update ya.
Nice run.

Don't count your chicken's before they hatch!!!
An STI will eat you for lunch.
Stock on stock no comparison.
My buddy has one, 1/4 mile they are tuff to beat, after that the G catches up real quick!
Good luck....

Yeah, the WRX loses steam quickly because it's a rally car. But the STi is a true road car and does not really suffer in the high-speed acceleration department (aside from the fact that it's only a 4-cylinder engine but turbocharger makes up for it).

Re: G35C6MT vs R32x2 vs STI
By your own description you were racing at very high speeds in a considerable amount of traffic. Time for a reality check, my friend.
One car changing lanes unexpectedly because they're not looking for someone weaving around them at 100MPH (or more), forcing you to avoid them, might put you (and your girlfriend) in one of those irresistible force/immovable object competitions where your car is the force, and the object is a tree or a guardrail or a lamp post or an oncoming car. People never win those.
Driving skills won't help you there either. You're rolling the dice in a completely unpredictable situation. People die every day having this kind of "fun", and too often take others out with them.
You can race safely at autocross or track day events to your heart's content. Please try it. That way we won't have to read a sad thread someday about how you'll never be posting here again...

Re: G35C6MT vs R32x2 vs STI
To add to the above, just a few hours after posting it I spent an hour cleaning my coupe and then drove in the beautiful NYC weather up to Westchester. As I was approching the exit from the Major Deegan to the Cross County Parkway, in the middle lane (of three) and going about 60, a blue WRX went zooming by in the left lane at probably 90+, followed close behind by an equally speedy Audi S4. I needed to get to the right to make the exit, and as I looked in my mirror, seeing a clear lane to the right, I started to make my move when a Mercedes SL500 zoomed up behind me and swerved to pass me on the right, cutting me off, followed by another racer on the right and one on the left, for a total of five cars all weaving in and out of traffic at very high speeds. Had I not sensed the racers' presence I myself might have been the victim of the exact scenario I was warning you about only hours earlier.
Poeple who do this stuff, especially in groups, in traffic, should not only have their cars and licenses taken away, they should be put in jail.
