Difficult to engage first & reverse gear only when car is running

It is easy to shift into all gears when the car is turned off but it is hard to shift especially into first and reverse gear when the car is running.

What could be wrong? The clutch line has been bled.
this happened after putting in a new clutch btw

Check Throw-out-bearing and TOB retainer sleeve.
Sometimes the TOB will not allow the clutch to fully dis-engage due to a bad bearing, cracked sleeve or both. This results in your "hard to shift" issue.
I got this same thing when I put a new Centerforce DFX in my cobra. TOB and sleeve was bad. TOB sits on sleeve.

Tested the car again. There are times where it is easy to get into first gear. but more than often it requires more force. Especially reverse.

update: Actually its all gears. I thought it was first and last only because you usually shift into those 2 only after a stop.
Anymore ideas?

Hey cloud, do you think it is the design of the clutch? I hope not, cuz I already ordered one--makes me double think my purchase.

I don't think so, it doesn't make sense for that to happen does it? Why make a clutch that doesn't shift right?

and tuners such as Autech use it so I think it might have something to do with the installation.

That sucks cause that Ogura looks like such a nice product. Hopefully you'll get it worked out.

I would agree with you. I wouldn't think this should be the normal operation of the clutch--many have used this setup overseas on the vq35de platform--but that link shows the tuner you are talking about usesn ats twin carbon clutch, not orc. Anyways, Is it b/c the clutch is mettalic and not organic? Do you think it has anything to do w/ the options employed (hi-mu, silent, damper)? The same clutch as yours has been ordered for me but has yet been shipped from the japanese vendor. I wonder if this should concern me.

I really hope you get this worked out brother. Your first reviews were so good, then all these problems? How streetable is it in its present form? Are you going to reinstall it w/ new oem parts that might have been damaged during the install? Man, I hope this gets fixed for you so you can enjoy it!

oops i meant AMUSE uses the ORC hehe.
Not too sure, will let you know after i contact Z Car Garage tomorrow. Signs point to improper clutch alignment / improper installation of the release (throw out) bearing.
btw would you do me a favor, the next time you drive your car
drive it a little(a few feet would be enough) and try to shift through the gears. Is the shifting effort higher than shifting through the gears when the car is turned off?

I'll check tomorrow and let you know about the shifting effort. This is your daily driver right? Do you know if the orc 409's are advertised as light track/streetable or *****-out race clutches? W/options like damper and "silent" this would seem to point to a hint of streetability, but you have described signs of very little free play, 1st gear shudder, and high shifting effort during driving.

I wonder how much of the issues you are having are due to the improper installation/defective oem parts and on the other hand due to the natural characteristics of the orc 409 super single clutch w/ all 3 options?. Not much out there in English on these...

I have fixed the freeplay issue. ZCG adjusted it too low.
my instincts tell me the 1st gear shudder has something to do with the shifting difficulty I have right now.

edit: it's my daily driver.
