how can i make shifting less knotchy

I hate my shifter! I mean i depress the damn clucth 3/4 way if no a little more and i still dont get smooth shifting and in result when i try to get smooth shifting i get a rough ride (jerky). Is there a solution to it?

Try shifting faster..The G35 is a short throw so if you wait to long to shift you lose the power band and you get that Nothcy jerky feeling...

you should depress the clutch 100% every shift.

It just takes time to get used to (as with all manual cars)...drive it long enough and you'll get the technique down

ive heard you should push your clutch all the way in all the time. 2nd gear is a bit weird too. rpms have to drop a whole thousand to be smooth. everything else is just 500

What I've found myself doing is throwing a lot faster, in a lot more direct way (i.e. don't limp wrist your shift)...also, the move on the clutch has to be quick, but with 100% depression--until you have the powerband down and can rev match pretty accurately.

I think the dogs on our clutch are kinda close (as are the gear ratios), so that's going to demand a quick, firm move on the shifter.

much agreed..if you shift fast and extremely direct, it is almost perfect. But I have to agree with someone above, you have to know your car and get used to it when timing your gas pedal clutch, when you get there just practice that and then it becomes habit, but then again some times cars are fickle as much as the weather.

Re: how can i make shifting less knotchy

Unfortunately I recently heard from a tuner shop that the tranny's on our G35 Coupes have had some problems and as of today 05 Jan 04, there is a 5 gen tranny that is on the 04 models...

I have the same notchy crunchy -ness on my 2nd gear sometimes too,... i'm going to the dealer to get the latest tranny put in if possible.

I like to double clutch when the tranny is new on upshifts, and whenever traffic allows on downshifts. I find this helps ease the shift points and in my opinionmakes for a smoother break in on the synchros. Plus it's great practice for auto-x.

lol honestly let it grind a couple times. For some reason I couldn't get into 3rd a couple times at over 6k rpms so I had to jam it in. Ever since that my shifting is like butta.
