5AT tranny slipping??

I've had my 04 Coupe about 2 weeks now and the first week or so I had it I noticed that upon giving it some gas the engine would rev very high (around 4k rpm's) with no acceleration and wouldn't shift unless I let off the gas. I had posted about it and some people said to reset the ECU, but I haven't had time to not drive it for 12hrs as recommended and am starting to worry there's a transmission problem.

Just to give a couple examples, I was going 20mph and hit the gas about half to accel to 40 and it felt like it dropped 2 gears to 2nd or something because I don't know how else you could almost REDLINE an automatic unless something is wrong with the tranny. I had to let off the gas because it hit the redline mark and the engine rev'd so high. Not a pleasant experience.

The other times I've noticed high engine rev with no acceleration is when I'm going 40mph and accelerate onto the highway. Again, there's a 1-2 sec pause during a high engine rev and then finally some acceleration.

I read a few threads on fluids being too full or too low but the manual says not to check it yourself and I can't even find the stick for it. I have an 04.5. Any insight? I'll try ECU tonight, but I want to make sure how long I need to disconnect the negative battery.

I just noticed G35inSD's thread with seemingly my exact same problem... his ECU reset seems to have done nothing so I'm kind of getting a little worried. I just got this car 2 weeks ago.

Why one has a 70k warranty and a 100k Nissan extended warranty to protect against the $4,000 expense.
ATFluid replacement is about all one can do to push out the expected tranny replacement............historically AT last ~~150k if maintained.

The ATF dipstick is back agaist the firewall, passenger side to middle. A 10mm bolt holds it down. Make sure the AT is warm, drive about 20 minutes, then park and check. Sounds like you have a fluid level issue. Be careful when adding fluid it expand as it warms to operating temp. I would check when warm and add fluid when cold. It is easier to get the level correct when cold. By cold, start the car, hold brake and put into each gear and hold for about 10 seconds starting with reverse, neutral, and then drive. Go back up to park thru each position, then check the dipstick. When completely done remember to put the bolt back in place and tighten down. It is not hard, just go slow.....
