6MT Grind, new tranny ordered.

I have read alot of people getting there trannys changed because of grinding..
Just gonna tell you about my 6MT. Also I have a couple questions about a clutch and flywheel...

- I went to Garcia Infiniti today and told the service manager that when I shift faster than normal it would grind the gears (3rd and 4th). Especially when you go past 4k RPMs. Immediately I thought he was gonna say some bull**** about replacing the clutch. We got back to the dealership and told the service advisor that he needed to order a new transmission because the syncros are shot..

- he also told me that I had to get a new clutch becuase it's starting to go bad. What's funny, they told me to stay away from the stock clutch and flywheel. They recommended a Stage 2 ACT clutch and flywheel for 1130 dollars.. Is that a good price?? I kinda think thats a little high. Is it normal for infiniti dealers to tell me to buy high performance parts?? Although I look at the G's they are selling. They are all hooked up.

- Can I just buy a performance clutch and keep my stock flywheel?? Or is that a bad idea?? Can they resurface my stock fly?? I have 51800 miles on the car.
- I am happy they ordered a new tranny without me even asking...

- Thanks for any advice.. GG

Mine's doing that too...If I shift above 4K RPMs faster than normal, 1st to 2nd gear, it grinds. If I floor the clutch and give it a split second to engage, then it won't grind. Maybe I should take mine in too....

stock flywheel cannot be resurfaced, b/c its a dual mass type. If you're gonna upgrade your clutch, you might as well get a lightened flywheel at the same time, but be prepared for some more noise/vibrations w/out the heavy oem flywheel.

Yeah, I went there last month complaining and at first they said it was my clutch. They wanted to open up my case and I refused. So I went back last week and the service manager drove it. He instantly said that we need to replace the tranny.. Good thing I have the powertrain left cuz the full warranty expired last year. The problem your car is having is the same as mine except your syncro in the 1st and second shot. Let them change your tranny.

Damn, vibrations, my freaking tranny makes alot of noise now when the clutch is not pushed in... I read about that one. I buy a after market clutch/flywheel and it's gonna be like a cement truck...

Thanks. I'll call them tomorrow to make a service appointment. Hope they don't try blame the clutch for this one like yours did at first....I've driven manual since I've been licensed to drive, and I know what a bad clutch feels like....

Well, I canceled my appointment. I took the car out for a test run today and gunned it several times. It never grinded between shifts today. What I did differently was the way I held the shifter. The other day when it was grinding, I was holding the shifter with my palm over the top. Today, I tried holding it with my palm on the side, and my thumb resting on top of the shifter. It didn't grind anymore with that method. I've been driving manual for years and never had a car that was this sensitive to how you hold the shifter, but I can see how this would affect it--2nd gear engages all the way to the left, and it seems more sensitive at higher rpm's....At least I won't need a new tranny...

I am sad, but happy cuz I will have anew tranny soon. My car is at Garcia Infiniti getting repaired, hopefully it will be done later on in the afternoon. What really pisses me off is that I called over there and asked if someone could drive me home. They said yes, so when I get there they told me to wait 20-25 min. 2 freakin hours passed by and still no ride home. So I told my friend to come pick me up. You would think that they would inform you after 30-45 min saying they are having problems finding someone to drive me home. Not 2 hours of waiting around. I thought Infiniti was suppose to have superior customer service mad: :

I just picked up my car from the dealership. The tranny shifts so smooth now. It is very very easy to get in any gear.. I also did not change my clutch, I told them to put the same one in the new tranny.. The only diffrenceis that the clutch is very easy to push in now. Before it was hard and felt like I was working my leg out. No more grinding in 3rd or 4th gear..

They didn't give you a service loaner?? My car is getting the tranny replaced right now and I'm using a loaner 07 sedan untill I get my car back and my car is out of the normal warranty period but the repair is covered under the powertrain warranty.
