Hey guys, my 2005 G35 coupe has been having this problem where it makes a grinding noise from ~1850-2000 RPM just after I start the car, but it only does it once, until I shut off the car for at least 20 minutes and start it again.

It seems it only makes that noise when the engine is cold, but I am suspecting it is the transmission. It has been doing this for a while and I made an appointment with the infiniti dealer. Last time I had it in there I told them about it and they said that they "didn't notice anything" . Since I had a lot going on then I let it go, but now im coming back and expect to have it fixed.

What do you guys think it is?

 

I am not sure if this is related, but on my 06 sedan and ever since I purchased it (10K mile currently on it), I get the grinding noise every time I start the car and start driving (10-20 seconds later). It last only for about a second, then it is gone until the next time I start the G and start moving. I definitely would like to know what it could be. Thanks.

 

YEAH THATS IT!!

I want to know what it is too. I thought that was isolated with my car only, but it sounds like a common issue. Someone has to know what it is.

 

This is completely normal guys, dont get worried. Your car performs an ABS self test once you start it up and go at a really low speed. Mine tends to do it around 10 mph after start up. If you place your foot on the brake pedal slightly it should vibrate while this happens.

 

Oh, okay well thats the answer then, because I have noticed that it does vibrate when the noise happens. Good to know nothings wrong with my G.
