New to 6MT, but is 1st to 2nd supposed to be this rough?
okay, so i went to get my car yesterday and it was great.. really excited, but then i was also extremely nervous because i havent gotten behind a manual in years, and even then, it was for a short lesson.. so in a sense, i know the basics, but no experience..
i cant get my first to 2nd gear to shift smoothly.. it jumps when i release the clutch
i need tips on what rpm is best for me to shift into 2nd, and like if i need to feed it a tiny bit of gas, moderate before letting go of the clutch..
also, i dont think my clutch is supposed to make clanking noises when i shift in and out of a gear (only somtimes)... is it? and its only loud enough to hear with windows down and no music...

covered many times. and yes the 1-2 shift is extremely notchy for the G.
You'll find a way to shift with it but still it won't be the smoothest.
For me I shift to 2nd at really low rpms like below 2krpm.

It doesn't sound like vtb11 is complaining of "notchy" gearbox, but having not gotten the timing of his clutching action down yet.
No worries buddy. Ya just need more practice. To start off ... try slowing the clutching action by slowly easing it in. Once you have achieved the smoothness, you can work on speeding the process up. It is afterall down to timing and coordination.

Patience young padawan. The force is strong in the G gearbox. You must focus all your mitoclorians towards the task of shifting smootly. When you reach Jedi status, you can wield an aftermarket clutch/lightweight flywheel

It just takes practice and extra effort. But it will become 2nd nature just as shifting and controlling the clutch will become 2nd nature.

yeah, i just went for a midnight drive and slowed down the releasing of the clutch and it felt much better... i guess i was too much in racecar mode for a first timer
