Unhappy Transmission Problem...maybe

Hey everyone I'm having a slight problems with my transmission. I know its probably posted a bunch of time but I really don't have time to get on and do a search and I'd like some information asap because the car is at the dealer.

Problem: 1st through 4th shifts fine, but 5th has a slight scratch to it. It don't gring loud or even struggles to get in gear, it just scratches as its going in. That problem occurs at about 4g rpm and shifting average maybe a little faster than average. But if I take my time like step on my clutch and then shift kinda slowly, NO SCRATCH sound and it goes in. Also, I notice when I sometime decide to push my car, it grinds in second gear, not all the time. But, I notice it does that and I keep thinking I was shifting to fast or something.

Well I have Warranty for 70g miles and dealer insist on tear down which will cost me 360 bucks and then go from there. If clutches is good then they go straight to Tranny and warranty it. If clutch is worn down or Screw then I have to replace it. If it problem still occur with new Clutch then they give me a new tranny. I was thinking also going aftermarker clutch and flywheel being that they would let me buy my own parts. They won't warranty the defect of part but they will warranty their worksmanship and if tranny still grind 5th they still warranty tranny and replace it.

PLEASE GIVE ME FEEDBACK!! I really appreciat any help..

Sounds fair to me since clutch is a wear item.

Be sure you understand the noise an aftermarket clutch and flywheel make and the downsides to installing them.

I would strongly discourage anyone from purchasing a lightwieght flywheel on our cars. We have a dual-mass flywheel for a reason. The noise below 2.5K will be insane. If you get an aftermarket clutch, stay with an organic disc.

yeah You are right about that. I don't know if I can even take the sound of chattering or worst it sounding like a Cement mixer. I like mine the way it is. I wish I can avoid that and still upgrade it to help drop my time.

My 6mt coupe is at the dealership right now because I was having problems in the higher gears and I just got a call that they are replacing the trans and it includes the clutch but not the throw out bearing. So I've gotta pony up about $100 for the bearing and labor for the new clutch installation.

If you are referring to my last post, the Service Manager said that the new trans are shipped with the clutch as part of the unit, but the throwout bearing is not. So basically for about $100-$200 I'm getting a complete new trans and clutch (but original flywheel from my understanding).

Dealer just called. Apparently there was a service bulletin issued at some point telling them they should be using lighter weight tranny fluid, which ought to solve the problem. Makes sense to me as prior to my 60K service where I got new fluid, I had only encountered the problem prior to warmup on the coldest days of the winter when the fluid would be the thickest. Thankfully I don't need a new clutch.

Temperature is average down here. I don't think its the fluid, although I might have dealer change fluid out just in case, but I think I rather a new Tranny...Hehe...Being that I'm going to hit 70g miles soon. still got 25g miles to go before warranty runs out, so hopefully its taken care of. But if anyone has the same symptom, let me know. If there is any kind of recall or issue sthat dealer should be aware of with the 03-05 tranny, please let me be aware so I can bring the issue up.

Thanks

I have been having synchro issues in and out of 5th gear for a while. Got 45k on my 04 Cpe. Dealer gave me the same rhetoric about worn clutch. Went back and made a tech ride with me. He said my clutch may be be worn but the box is definitely NG. He did say the stock clutch sux, regardless. New gearbox is on order. Haven't decided which clutch to get yet, either ACT or Competition. Since many say the stock flywheel cannot be resurfaced, I will get a forged, chromoly wheel - ACT, CompClutch, Z1 or the like. Prolly which ever is the heaviest to reduce noise and chatter. Bottom line, get your back up with the dealer and get the new box.
BTW, why would they ship a clutch with a gearbox? They're not even attached to each other!
