Upgrades for 5AT

hey i have been looking around for some upgrades for my 5AT. does anyone know any good upgrades to do without spending a lot of money.
i would like to avoid upgrading the valve body and try and stick with a reasonably priced torque converter or stall converter?

i guess basically my question is what have you all done without dropping 3 grand.

thanks.

well im trying to spend less than two grand total. i blew out my reverse gear being stupid. so im going to be taking it to a transmission shop bc ive never rebuild or done anything on an automatic transmission.

were would you suggest looking for a final grive at or any gears for a matter of fact i kinda wanna buy all the parts i need before i take it to the tranny shop. so i dont get a bunch of inflation on just the parts.

for an auto it would be a 3.7 final drive gear (stock is 3.5)

search for it, tons of sites offer them for a good price

increases rpm by 250 at 65mph and 325 at 80mph

car will definately feel a lot more peppier off the start...and it will help you keep up with a 350Z

^^^ stock AT is 3.3 (MT is 3.5) - 07+ ATs are 3.692 (3.7).

Going from 3.3 to 3.7 is a good choice.

OP, you can do final drive and lsd for a little more than your listed budget... the reason I mention lsd = AT is open differential... if plan to do both (ever) you might as well do them at the same time.

Otherwise ATF cooler, and VB will be well under your budget.

Basically:

ATF Cooler = under $100 and can be self installed or paid install from under $100
VB = $800-$1200 plus install
Trq Converter = $2K + install (300-500)
FD = 450 + install (400-500)
LSD = 1200-1500 + install (400-500)
Of course if you do LSD and FD at the same time the install price is paid once (not times 2).

These are number off the top of y head from when I did all these things… they could be off a bit (but not much).

3.7 FD with Quaife LSD - both will fit in your pumpkin.

You will need to drop in an MT lsd or swap pumpkins form an MT because the 3.3 ring gear is thicker than the 3.5 and shorter gears... so the differential needs to be for an MT in order to accommodate the thinner gear.

Bottom line is get 3.7 with an aftermarket LSD (I recommend Quaife or AutoTechs WaveTrack (if they've come out with it yet)... before you ask, AutoTech used to be Quaife America (the US distributor) - Quaife is a UK product.

There are lots and lots of threads about all this here, on my350Z, on 6MT.net, on FreashAlloy... search, search search... thats what I did.

Good luck.

you don't need a torque converter unless you are drag racing and have a lot of power. Just get a valvebody upgrade and get a tranny cooler. You could also find a rear end from a MT car (cheap upgrade for the final drive).
