i was driving my car pretty hard a few days ago for fun when i felt a sudden change in the way my clutch originally felt. it happened when i was in third or whatever gear shifting to the next when i still had my clutch half way in feeling where it catches and at the same time i was hitting the gas a lil but didnt realize that i was burning the clutch. and i guess i burnt it a lot that the clutch feels smoother (not neccessarly a good thing) on the way up instead of a lil harder. anyone know anything about this?

 

maybe the clutch is now broken in. the clutch felt horrible when i had my G the first few months but after a few spirited driving sessions, the clutch feels almost like how it should be..although it still slips a bit more than i would like.

 

ive only had my car for like.. 1 1/2 - 2 months and it changed when i was driving my car hard and at the same time i sorta rode my clutch off 1st gear

 

sounds like you boiled the fluid and it needs to be changed now

 

It could also be your clutch master cylinder messing up. My G started doing the same thing 3 weeks ago... feels like it sticks in the middle too right? My G is still under warranty so it will be fixed w/in this week. But they can't do anything about the clutch since it's a wear item. Hopefully my car won't slip after Infiniti fixes the problem.

 

well i havent had any problems with the car so far since this happened. is there anything i need to look for/do?

 

+1 on changing the clutch fluid. Use a DOT4 synthetic...clean it out with a lint free cloth. After filling the res., pump the clutch 25 times and repeat.

can Infiniti do this for me when i get my oil changed. need to get my oil changed anyway, so if i tell em about this problem can they fix it? or... they should right?

Just be careful about taking it to a dealership. If they're sharp, they'll realize the real problem and that's all they'll need to do. If they don't want to just repair part of the system, they'd probably recommend a new clutch. Sure it'll fix it because more than likely they'll change the clutch master cylinder fluid along with the entire job. However, that'll only be after taking $2200 out of your wallet for the new clutch you probably don't need. If your clutch is holding but you have the sticky pedal, the problem is most likely just the fluid.

BTW, the new clutch most likely won't be covered under warranty because it is a wear item. If your service advisor is cool, you can probably bring the instructions for the fluid change from that link and ask them to do that for you under warranty instead.

This happened to me a month or so ago. My dealership was convinced it was the clutch that had gone out. But there is no real way for anyone to conclude that without opening it up, which is not covered for free under warranty "just to check". I just followed the instructions from the link above and replaced the fluid with DOT4 brake fluid. Did wonders and the original fluid was dark and murky replaced with the pristine clear new fluid.
